New member (and Savage 22-250 load question)

Post by backburn » 11 Dec 2014, 12:52 am

Hi,

Another newbie to your forum! Been shooting for around 20 years though.

Just ordered a Savage M12 VLP IN 22-250 with a 1:9 twist.

Has anyone got any loads for 75- 80gn projectiles?

Cheers.

80gr is pushing it for 1:9.

Even some of the longer 75gr bullets like the VLD bullets might be problematic.

Still plenty of choice though.

Sierra... 63gr Varminter (flat base), Sierra 65gr GameKing SBT, 69gr MatchKing if you want some target bullets.

Hornady... 60gr V-MAX (flat base again), 75gr A-MAX, 70gr GMX.

Nosler Varmint only come up to 60gr in the .224 but are good bullets.

They're all good options worth trying.

Go to the ADI site and download their loading manual. The bottom of page 95 will give you a place to start or use the link below to access the online version.

What is the intended target of the 70Gr projectile?

Thanks for the welcome.

Will be using the 22-250 for foxes, rabbits and the occasional F Open club shoot.

Bit on the heavy side for varmints, maybe try a 50gr Sierra Blitz King #1450 with 37.5gr of AR2208 for bunnies and foxes. They depart the muzzle of my Sako 85 at 3834fps and absolutely vaporise small game. Save the bigger pills for the range.

Nooooo...I only use the 50's on the Giant Bunnies, for the regular sized cute and fluffy kind I prefer .338 lap :D
