Blast from bullpup with muzzle brake

Post by chookah » 13 Oct 2013, 7:31 am

Hey,

I was at little river yesterday and there was a guy with a bullpup 300 win mag with muzzle brake. Short barrel too.

He was packing up so I didn't want to be a pain and ask for a shot too late, but the questions is - between having the shorter barrel and bullpup config the brake was a foot (or more) closer to your face than it might be on a regular rifle.

I've stood behind/side of brakes before and you get buffeted around a bit.

On the bullpup, are you not copping your own muzzle blast coming back on you all the time?

I have two bullpups one a Sommer+Ockenfuss in 30.06 the other is the DTA SRS. The SRS .338L barrel is the only one that is braked and I don't get hit by the gasses but don't stand to close to me. I don't know the distance left or right but the non gas impact zone (just made that term up) is tighter than a conventional actioned rifle.

DId I mention I loved my bullpups ;)

It's not really ever an issue for the shooting as you're in a little cone of protection behind the rifle.

More of an issue for your neighbouring shooters as the barrel gets shorter - and a brake always sucks for your neighbours

Hi guys,

So I got behind a 300 win mag with a muzzle brake on the weekend and put a few rounds down :D

Easy as on the shooter like you guys said.

I see how it pays to be the guy with the brake, just sucks to be his shooting buddy
