Well a couple of you were close. These little steel plugs were found embedded in the bark of a gum tree at Lady Noisy's farm and came from this lump of 6" channel iron. Lady says lots of empty shells were found all around the house when she bought the place.

Thats a let down. Could have sworn it was a deep fried potato patty. ;)
