Probably appropriate I comment here, you won't be disappointed providing you remember it's a bull pup and has a bull pup trigger. That said, the DTA trigger is probably the best feeling of all the bull pup rifles on the market. 300 Win Mag is plenty of power in the Covert and your shoulder will be the judge of just how much power :) 18" on the barrel is a little on the short side so you'll never achieve the full potential of the round. The DTA muzzle brakes look good but not the best functionally compared to many others. Balance is great and the pistol grip is perfect for small to medium sized hand with a nice reach o the trigger without having to modify your grip.
As for scope options, on the Covert I'd be looking at the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22 x 56 on a set of Nightforce X-Treme Duty rings. A 18" barrel doesn't deserve the expense involved fitting a Kahles or S & B. Set it up for the maximum amount of eye relief possible or it'll crack you across the brow real quick. A lot will depend on what type of shooting you'll be doing as well. I'm currently using a NXS 8-32x56 on both the SRS & HTI though I'll be swapping to the Kahles K624i on the HTI in the near future.
Awesome rifle which will have the picatinny junkies drooling in awe. Don't waste $$ on an Atlas bi-pod for it, get a generic Harris style with picatinny adapter.

No rail screws on the DTA's and the screws on my Steyr were tight but like all new rifles give it a good going over to ensure nothing is loose along with a proper clean. Don't try to disassemble the bolt cause it's a proper bitch to get back together. Enjoy the rifle and let us know how it feels.

How's it going by the way? Any word back from importer on a replacement?

No word as yet, rifle should have arrived at Winchester last Friday. Their gunsmith only works 2 days a week (Monday & Tuesday) so hopefully some news this afternoon or I'll be calling them tomorrow. I have asked for 150 rounds by way of compensation and told them it's not negotiable so we'll see how they handle that. If the worse case happens and the Australian importer wants to play hard then I'll call Steyr and make some noise to senior management over in Austria. Time will tell :)

Brett you should get the terminator brakes they work great.
We run them on our rigs and love them. I shoot my edge out the window of the 4x4 and have no trouble at all, recoil is about the same as a 22 250 and brake is a t3 old style. and he makes a t 6 for 50 cals.

Just checked them out and the T6 looks nice but they are all about the same size and design of what I've currently got fitted as standard. Not worth the time or expense swapping out one design for something similar. When I get tired of recoil I'll look at the clamshell style brakes as used on the M99 Barrett and Steyr HS50. The M99 is an absolute dream to shoot with almost no recoil, I put >100 rounds through it in 1 day and not even a hint of pain in the shoulder.

If you love recoil then grab a DTA HTI in 50BMG and hang on just a bit tight then my friend Laurie :)

Maybe in Queensland it's difficult but in good ole NSW they have them on the shelf in a few shops I frequent. Even Barrett 416, Steyr, Barrett and Armalight 50's as well.

Browning BL-22 lever action...open sights
T3 Varmint .204 Ruger...Meopta Meostar 4-16X44
T3 Lite .30-06 Sprg...Aimpoint Hunter 1X red dot

....that will do me

SA is also a pain in the backhole.. im qld myself but im happy with my 300 for now hehe. Theres only one range in qld where you can shhoot 338 lap and ya need 50,000ac as a minimum requirement i believe.

Next task is to find some good properties.. tedious .
