Hi from Nun Zud

Post by dogmatix » 20 Apr 2015, 8:21 am

Hi from across the dutch (ditch).

dogmatix here, post on a few NZ and US forums.

Hunt red, sika and the odd fallow deer in the North Island. Also goats, pigs, duck, turkeys etc, not as much as before, as family farms have been sold and a new baby arrived end of 2013.

Also shoot a bit of service rifle, enjoy handloading for .223, 6.5x55Swe, .270, .308 and 300WinMag and general shooting.

Collection currently consists of:

Sako 75 .223 (stainless laminate) - has a DPT modular suppressor not pictured.

Image

Schmeisser AR15 (mid length gas 16" barrel) - has a DPT AR suppressor not pictured.

Image

Sako 75 .270 (finnlight) - has a DPT modular suppressor not pictured.

Image

Molot Vepr .308 (AK style hunting rifle, but top of the line) - has some evil 20 round magazines backordered from the USA.
Note, its a .308Win, not 7.62x39 Soviet.

Image

Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R (horrible thing, but mine shoots like a laser) I don't reload for it, as it seems to like the cheap Barnaul steel cased ammo, which is cheaper than reloading.

Image

Remington 870 12 gauge

Image

Currently building a DPMS LR308 (AR10) in .308 by bringing in parts from the USA, but dropping NZ $ is making it hardly worthwhile anymore.

Also tempted to buy a sweet Swedish Mauser (m38) this week! :D

I reload the 6.5x55 for a mates Tikka T3, .270 for another mates Sako 85 finnlight and 300WinMag for yet another mates Sako A7

Welcome to the forum mate. You've got a nice collection of firearms there, it's a shame we can't enjoy the same freedoms as you guys.

Cheers mate, yep we are pretty lucky here. Sensible firearms laws that work 99.9% of the time.
I wouldn't mind getting the NZ pistol license for a bit of 3 gun shooting, but getting and maintaining the pistol license is a pain, especially with a 18 month year old boy taking up most of my time.

 I'm feeling you. Don't know how different it is from our pistol licence process but that was a pain in the ass to go through. My first child is due any day now so I'll be cutting back for a while too

Welcome to the forum mate

Was in your beautiful country last week for 8 days just last week. Had a blast. Roads are good, nice peaceful culture, oh and and I loved the the gun shops. The one in Penrose is huge, forgot the name though. Was able to handle all the AK/AR15's and an M1A as well as a few pistols in my own time which was great.

Very jealous of your gun law situation. Mostly so with the suppressors, where you can just walk in and buy them which is the way it should be, as part of the necessary hearing protection. I would like to be able to hear by the time I'm 40.

Cheers mate, sorry, I had the blurbs above the relevant pics. The Black semi is my Schmeisser (German made) AR15.
in .223 Rem (not 5.56x45).
ARs can stand for 'Another Receipt'!

As per the pic below!

Image

Pic doesn't include the 3000 odd cases and projectiles I have. :D :D :D

For you techie/gear types.

Troy rail covers / factory handguard / Leupold IMS mount and VX2 3-9 (off my .22!) / factory handgrip
Rifle with flash hider, plastic handguard and A2 pistol grip (to qualify for Service Rifle) / Vortex Spitfire x3 Prism scope / A4 rear sight / Magpul BUI rear
DPT AR suppressor / Stoner 9 rounders (need to trim follower to make them 10s) /
Schmeisser 10 rounders / Schmeisser 30 rounders / SWT 30 rounders / Lancer AWM 30 rounders

For this rifle, I handload Hornady 55gn SPs, ADI 62gn FMJs, Sierra 65gn Gamekings and Sierra 69gn Matchkings.
Using ADI 2206h powder.

You'd be a "criminal" here in a dozen different ways for having what's in that photo :problem:

Yeah my Molot Vepr, surprisingly accurate with handloads for an AK style.
With 150 Sierra Prohunters. Best of 0.66" (100m)

Image

155gn Hornady AMaxes. Best of 0.74" (100m)

Have shot a ton of goats and turkeys with it.
Took it deer hunting, but wasn't ideal to carry around the tight NZ bush! :D

Hi dogmatix,
Welcome to OZ but you will be making us jealous so expect some flak.
They sometimes say NZ is part of OZ
Any chance you could convince your PM to either buy OZ or send in the troops? :drinks:
Seems like your place is being better run than ours these days
There's always room for at least one more gun in my safe.

Hi mate, yeah its not cool to be deaf! In fact contractors culling for either NZ's Department of Conservation or local Regional Councils are required to have either suppressor or electronic ear muffs due to occupational safety and health regulations.
