Just for s**ts and giggles guys.

"You have been selected to participate in Australia's first Fantasy Hunter competition! You will be taken to various locations in Oz to hunt all sorts of game in all sorts of conditions. You are only allowed to select 1 firearm, 1 scope and 1 commercial brand of ammo. You are allowed to spend $5000 on firearm and scope. Every week the lowest scoring hunter will be sent home."

Keen to see what comes out of this inane topic, I'm bored so forgive me!

PS, I'm a newb so not commenting.

Ignore North East aaronjo. He has nothing to say except '30-06' in every topic. I'll play cause I'm not a miserable old bastard like him ;)

Not price limit set for ammo so might as well have the primo stuff like Lapua or Norma.

Scope maybe something like the Leupold VX-6 3-18x50. They're about $1800.

It's a bit boring maybe but the recent Tikka TAC seems like a good all-rounder which would suit to me. Heaver profile barrel for he long range accuracy but not the full weight bull option which sucks to carry.

Count me in :D

You could put me down for a Sako 85 Long Range and some Khales glass.

Was thinking along similar lines.

Why factory ammo, though? That sucks. I want to hand load for my new Sako!

400 for a combo?? Goods value for a shotty/30cal

But as far as the fanntasy goes, it will be a nice set up but not super special... for that I'd go straight to a 5ooNitro Holland Double.... ;)

For this econo-fantasy gig.... I'd be thinking custom, a nice Early german 98, or Belgian maybe commercial, screw on a nice quality barrel, high figured walnut, 3p express site (and save the scope money) last but not least, an old school semi-magnum mid-big bore chambering like a 9.3x62....or why not 8x68 and a supply of premium RWS fodder.....

I'll be sent home when we get to the water fowl event.....with my new rifle :drinks:

Nice pick with the Baikal.

I was trying to think up suggestions but a combo 30-06 and 12g is pretty hard to beat for practicality.

A fella showed me a combo he had bought at our local pistol club a year or so ago.
A Drilling , German I think , maybe Merkel.
7x57 - 12g combo , But the right hand 12g barrel had been sleeved to take .22 Mag.
Pretty handy I thought ( Cost a bucket load though )

You've got me thinking of something like the Akkar triple barrel now.

I'll take one with a barrel in 12 gauge, one in .308 and one in .17hmr

Are the Sako Long Range here yet

They've been advertised for a year or two now or something and I've never seen on in store or at a range :unknown:

Novel idea, your points of impact would be all over the place between each cartridge though.

I can see a few frustrating misses happening.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?
