I don't have a modern full stock but I do have an old Steyr that's a full stock and my SMLE was as well. I found the secret to getting good accuracy off the bench with them was to ensure you rest the fore end in the same place for every shot. This ensures the wood presses on the barrel at the same place for each shot providing consistency.
For field shooting the same applies with hand placement. They are beautiful rifles mate.
As for the rusting just pull them down and clean and oil them after a trip out bush and before long term storage and you should be right. Have a dehumidifier or some desiccant packs in your safe should help too
