This forum is tempting me to spend more money. Never really considered a shotty coz I reckon it's range is so limited (not bagging them in any way, just my newbness).

So possibly a shotty for close work, 17hmr for little teddy bear like things to about 150-200m and a (.243, .270, .308, 6.5x55) for bigger stuff?

Honestly, the more I learn the harder it gets to make choices....

Wait until you enter the world of reloading & handguns.

Just read a lot, ask questions (there's no such thing as a stupid question), watch the various youtube video's and find a gun store that you like. Even join a club. I've learnt alot from club members and I am certainly no expert. Been shooting off & on for over 40 years and still learning.

Combined with everything you like, you end up with Chrono's signature or more.

Then you hear stories where people own hundreds of rifles and hundreds of handguns. Imagine being the inspector for that job.

The stupid thing would be not to ask and accidentally do something illegal or dangerous.

I was looking for a longer barrel 9mm that I might use for IPSC in the future as well and it was between the Walther and the M&P Pro.

Preferred the fit and sights in the Walther.

Just make sure you ask now before sharing "technical data" is made illegal
