222Rem rides again

I took my little 222R out to the range on Wed with a load of 22.5gn 2207 and 40gn Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. I fired a group at 100m and though it was pretty good then fired another at 200m at impressed myself. It was pretty windy but the group stayed consistent. We had previously chrony'd that load at a bit over 3,400fps. Anyhow I was pretty happy with that from a 20inch barrel not much bigger than a bloody drinking straw.

It's a bloody good cartridge. I run it through an old 33S Sportco with a flogged bore and it still prints a decent group on paper. Loading a 40gn Hornady V-Max over 21.2gn of ADI Benchmark One. For all practical purposes shooting minute of fox at 200 suits me fine!

Yeah I love my 222's too, it really is one of those cartridges that is just a pleasure to shoot, they are usually accurate, SFA recoil, noise is tolerable and it can kill very well when used correctly. My first CF rifle was a 222 and I still own it.

Is it loud with a little round like the 222?

I've stood next to guys shooting short barrel .308 and it's loud as hell!

No mate it stands for Remington. Sally it's not very load at all with the little barrel whereas a 308 is loud with any barrel.

Nice one mate, what sort of scope were you using and how much prep work on the cases etc?

G'day Scott, I just neck size the cases with a Lee Collet, clean the primer pockets and chamfer the neck once only. I also run a drill through the flash holes to make sure there are no burrs the scope is a 4-12x43 Vortex Crossfire11. I use mainly all Winchester brass, but I've also got some Hornady which I keep separate. I noticed the Hornady cases weighed out a couple of grains heavier than the Winchester.
