When you asked for tips so you don't buy overly expensive cleaning stuff,

Here's one that applies specifically to .22

* Don't clean it too much.

Many rimfires have been given a hard life unnecessarily thru excessive cleaning of the bore.
I'm sure there are many other members that will agree with that.

Your first you will remember it for some time haha
Serious tho dont try to clean it to much .22 bullets are wax coated and they realy need the wax in the barrel research that bit and you will find most manuals for .22 will say clean after 10,000 round only if accuary starts to get bad a 3x9x40 scope will get you passed where you can shoot at the moment but i would get one for a jw.15e
good gun mate has one I was realy suprised all day at 50 m into about 20c area if he does his bit .
have fun with it

Each gun likes different bullets. Best to get a few different kinds and see how your gun likes it. I'm lucky and can get good groups out of highland rounds and they're $40-45 for 500
if you don't get stuck, your not trying hard enough

wow that feels like a weight off my shoulder no cleaning

Yeh i read that before but didnt actually realise that cleaning it to much could do harm. I thought it was more like an option where it didnt make any difference if you did clean or not.

yeah i probably will go with the 3x9x40, but just want to try open site and see how it feels. Then i actually need to start researching on scopes and find the appropriate one for a good $$$

oh and thanks for the heads up

cheers joker, (by the way i plan on keeping my first :) ,, since where on the topic have any of yous still got your first firearm?)

Cleaned mine once in 12 months just to see if it would make a difference nup still the same.
Used mine with open sights for a few weeks (loved it) then put on a cheap Nikko-Stirling 3-9x40 it does all I need
My first .22 I got from my Dad then gave it back to him then he gave it to my nephew its kinda the family gun.

No worries Simmo glad I could help  and thanks to every one once again. Oh Simmo if you want to know about cleaning there was a thread we just went through with heaps of information there for us beginners ;)

RSJ I think I'll be going for the Stirling when I'm ready also. That seems to be the the budget scope for a .22 to go for.

I like the idea of having a family gun, which gets handed down through the generations :D

That's of the barrel mind you.

Still clean the bolt, action, stock etc. and use a suitable oil or other product to protect it.

Of course don't want it to rust :)

do you also oil the trigger, and how do you clean synthetic stock (just wipe it down with a rag?)?

Clean everything except putting a brush through the barrel.

Wipe down everywhere with your chosen cleaning product, muzzle, trigger guard, trigger..... All the nooks and crannies. Then a super light coat of oil to protect all.

A synthetic stock itself doesn't need cleaning, but it might as well be clean. Otherwise you'll just be transferring grime to other parts of the firing during handling.

Just do it as part of doing the rest of the rifle with the same cleaning stuff.

Isn't lanox considered the cleaning product and oiling :?

Lanox is for both cleaning and protection.

Some aren't. Some use one thing for cleaning and then a different oil after for protection. Can be because of different stock wants something different or personal preferences or whatever the case may be.

I'm sure Seconds was just saying - Yes, do the stock the same as you did the rest of the gun. Don't skip it.

Just a word of caution when cycling the rifle to run the action in.
Do not ever dry fire a rimfire gun, I shall explain.
Without a cartridge rim in place the firing pin will eventually peen the edge of the chamber so as to displace metal into the chamber, you will get feeding issues and especially extraction issues.
You do not want to dry fire a centrefire either, with nothing to stop the tip of the firing pin it will stretch and eventually separate.
Not familiar with the JW 15 but you can quiet probably de-cock by squeezing the trigger and easing the bolt handle down.
NEVER ON A LOADED ROUND [Not yelling but buggered if I can do bold print]

You saved me from asking that question lol.

Just the other day I was thinking about if it would be bad to squeeze the trigger with no ammo in the chamber.

But I guess you answers that for me. Cheers mate for the advice :drinks:
