Controlled feed or push feed

Post by salate » 26 Oct 2013, 8:56 am

Hi all...

Just wondering what peoples preference is on controlled feed or push feed systems.

They both get the bullet in and out of the chamber obviously so I guess it's mostly personal preference.

What do people prefer and why?

The Mauser fan-boys loooove to talk up the controlled feed.

Not knocking it, but I've never had an issue with my push feeds.

Controlled feed is great if you plan on hanging upside down from a tree while chambering a round. Its proberly better for reloading on the run to. Iv never had trouble with push feed, even on the run.

Useful when shooting from a hand glider too.

Can fly without worrying about dropping your cartridges

I prefer the smoother action of a push feed myself.

Something like the Rugers or whatever with controlled feed are a bit too stiff for my liking.

Totally personal preference IMO.

There are reason why either is "better" than the other, but in practical terms there mostly meaningless.

i.e. It's great that controlled feed never lets go of the bullet. If I was a soldier rolling through a trench and it was life or death that would be great.

But I'm not... so it doesn't actually matter.

Personally I much prefer the feel of the control feed. And the reliability.

Feed was one of the main reasons I bought my Hawkeye.

You know it's going to push and pull the cartridge every time, no questions asked.

LOL.

I'm picturing someone borrowing their mates Mauser now so they can say they've done this.
