Who got to the Brisbane (Ipswich) gun show ?

After the advertising that was on the internet, I went on Saturday with high expectations.

WHAT A LET DOWN,,,,,,,,,,

I was severely disappointed, and in my view the organisers need to be done for false advertising.

Any other members have comments on this ?

Can't wait for next year

So where and when is that, and what can one expect out of it ?

Hopefully more than just 2 or 3 guys having a few 2nd hand arms, and being too engrossed in talking to each other to serve some-one that's waiting.


Seriously, the organisers at Ipswich would've made more cash out of entry fees than the vendors would've made in sales. Fair Dinkum.

The ad boasted that it was the only gun show in Australia that was able to have C Class firearms on show by dealers.

That part of it certainly was NOT correct.

I went, it's certainly not like the SSAA shot show. I'd been before when it was at the Ekka grounds. It's mainly an antique and militaria sale. A few shops selling cleaning, reloading components, a few selling old ammo and some second hand firearms.

Lots of bayonets at one stall and a few with bits and pieces, great if you're after parts for a mosin Nagant firing pin or bolt handle.

I picked up a good deal on a type 53 carbine (Chinese mosin Nagant) and my father got a flintlock Kentucky rifle.

Looking forward to shot show next month.

I had a look at that carbine, it was pretty nice. I was more interested in the p17 enfield a few rifles to the left of it.

Last year I got sucked in by the advertising for it.
Biggest waste of a day I've ever made
I thought it was appalling,,,,,,, and most of the vendors were too busy talking to each other to serve a customer.

Seems like there is a gunshow in Oklahoma about every other month, my brother in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas tells me there is one just about every weekend down there. But it doesn't take going to too many of them to find out which are worth the time and money.

For me that is about 4 a year, two in Oklahoma City and two in Tulsa. These shows will restrict the vendors to being 90% gun, ammo and shooting related merchandise like scopes, stocks, gunsmithing, parts, reloading and targets while the remaining 10%, usually less than 10%, will be clothing, books, photographs and art work, jewelry, food sales and preparation stuff like smokers sausage presses spices and the like, and even some toys like rubber band guns.

Most of the vendors are licensed dealers with there only occasionally being a person selling off their personal guns in large enough number for them to need a table. Yes in Oklahoma you may find an individual walking around with a gun to sell or trade, that's how a friend of mine found his Ruger Old Model 44 Cap and Ball revolver. And in those cases, a transaction between two private persons no background check or paperwork is required, but is often done by either seller or buyer as "insurance" incase of theft or misuse. As for buying a gun from a dealer you have to meet all the legal requirements, fill out the 4475 form, and go through the NICS, National Instant (background) Check System, before you can pay and walk away with your new toy.

Yeah. It was a bit average,but I expected that. Took me 45 mins including talking time. Picked up some 218 bee brass that used to be mine anyway, and a book. Didn,t need a bayonet or a badge. Always the same. Prices up there.

Wasnt bad. Wasnt flash either. Picked up some aussie surplus .303 and 7.62x51mm ammo for about $20 for 20 rounds. good stuff, gonna try to reload them afterwards. never reloaded berdan primed brass before. I just wanna see if i can!

I went to the gun show there in 2014 and 2015. 2014 was great with good booths then 2015 was nothing but old men selling gun parts older then i am so i skipped this years. The one they do later in the year at the ekka grounds is only slighty better.

Heading down to gold coast for my daughters 21st. It just happens to be on the same weekend as the 2017 Brisbane gun show (18/19 march). Hoping to find some 7.62x54R brass and a few #4 mk 1 bits

The last SSAA Brisbane Shot Show at the Ekka was simply, awesome! Many, many exhibitors in fact at least 2 stories of them plus outside demos, including gun dog demos..

Don't miss it, should/will be bigger and better than last years!

I enjoyed the (2017) Brisbane Gun Show at the Ipswich showgrounds on the weekend. There were some very friendly stall holders there and a good range of items. I don't have a lot to go on as this was my first gun show but I would most definitely go again.

I went to the show on the Saturday ended up grabbing a die set and a few vintage outlandish rounds as a whole I was let down yes it was the first time that I had been to the Ipswich show. I really enjoy the ww2 era rifles and pieces, however the lack of tables and people whom had items for sale I found to be rather lacking. it wasn't a bad way to spend a hour though.
