Enough Gun ?? (pardon the pun)

Just curios,
How many out there would be able to say that they've got a firearm/s to suit everything in Australia that could present as a quarry ?
:unknown:

And I don't mean using a 50 cal on a rabbit.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!

I'm not covered legally for deer in the eastern states unless 12gauge counts.

But i recon my .243 with a heavy jacket 100 grain projectile is good for most big things ( with well placed shots ). .. not sure about buffalo though.

I'm looking to add to my set of clubs soon,
So far iv got .22 springer 22lr .243 12gauge and 50cal bp... that lot covers everything imo but a .223 is next and perhaps a 300wm later down the track .

Why not ?

Personal favourite for bunnies is a 40gr ZMax departing the muzzle of my Sako 22-250 at 3990 fps...it's my red mist load :)

For the odd bit of explosive action I disassemble Galahs with the .204 Ruger.

14 Rifle calibres, 8 Pistol calibres and 2 Shotgun gauges so I should have virtually any game likely to be encountered in Australia at ranges from 0 to 2000 meters. I won't go into the anti-material capabilities of some of the big rifles....

As for me, almost.
Im missing a 12gauge, but i have my name down for a certain lever action to fill that void.

IMO, the minimum collection to cover everything is:

Shottie (12g preferred)
Rimfire
20-22 cal centrefire (perhaps as large as .243)
Larger .30 (.303, 308, 30-06, 300wm or rum)
This covers the tools.
Then you have things more suited to certain types of hunting such as .30-30 or 300blk (bushy areas) or big game such as .35 whelan, .375, 416 etc.
Plus something of beauty or historical interest.

So... 6 is a good starting point

Yeah mate you soon realise you can knock over most things with a few cals. I find having too many cals to be a PITA to be honest, I can't be bothered with all the reloading and I ain't paying the rip-off prices for factory ammo that is ordinary at best when it comes to accuracy. :D

Honestly there ain't much I haven't been able to roll over with the humble little 222 - used it for years to shoot everything I ever wanted too, then decided to get a 250, 223, 204 and haven't really seen em do anything diff to the little 222 (well they have more range and knockdown power) but dead is dead and the 222 managed to do that job very well for the last 30yrs I've been using it.

Also used 308's and 243's etc and same thing, they kill just the same as the little 222 (more freedom to place crap shots with them than the 222) end of the day it all comes down to what works for you I guess hey.

To me the little cals help make you a better shot in some ways as you really have to really think about where you are putting that projectile when it comes to bigger stuff and of course at times you have to give up on taking some shots for that very reason, but that's ok with me I don't have to shoot everything I get in my X-hairs these days - I'm happy to see em walk away to play another day if need be.

Two shotties missing, 12g & 410. A hunter weight in 7-08 one day maybe. Will do everything I need along with the 22, 223 & heavy barrel 7-08.

I'll never begrudge a man that wants a gun but I don't see the point of a 410. Considering half of you seem to think a gun needs a specific purpose to be appreciated or owned :)

i have every thing coverd in most cases and still look to add things and change i would like to add a few of the big calibers like the 375 hh and the 458 or the 405 jeffrie.
I am a hunter i have the desire to look over the next hill and see what is there and a well made gun is like art that you can take with you.

Snakes and swallows? 12 gauge will do the job :D

Farmers for generations have killed anything and everything with nothing more than a .22 and 12 gauge. However, I prefer a spread, but don't see the point in having similar calibers or calibers with too much 'overlap'.

Having said that, my firearms are tools, they're not pretty but they do a job and do it well.

I would, however, like at least one safe queen, a nice rich deep gloss wood full stock with a blued steel barrel launching something like a .375, something to occasionally take north for the real big stuff with the .30-06 coming along as backup.

I would also like an mle or smle. mle is pretty well unobtainable, so would love a no1 mk iii for the historical value, and let's face it, they are incredibly fun to shoot and are an extremely effective game caliber.

Now, once I start target shooting, things will be a little different...

And if you really want to make sure the snake is dead without reloading:

Though technically, in self defense you can kill a snake (E.G if it is coming up towards you ready to send you the ER by biting through your steel-capped boots) and TBH, I doubt many people will come around knocking to see if you have killed any snakes recently.

Thats at least what can happen here in tassie, due to there being literally hundreds of the bastards

Snakes are the least of the problems in tasmania. Its also loaded with tasmanians, though if you run any sort of business that charges by the head, you can double your profits down there
