New CZ 550 in 9.3x62mm

Post by headspace » 13 Aug 2015, 8:37 pm

Bought my new rifle home yesterday, a CZ 550 with a full wood stock, 20inch barrel and a Bushnell 1-4 scope with a 30mmtube and illuminated dot. Tonight I've loaded 15 rounds and heading out tomorrow to a mates property to sight it in and test the loads. Bullets are 250gn and 286gn Woodleighs and cases are Norma. The rifle will be used on Buffalo, Sambar, Red deer, and pigs. I don't see much rabbit shooting with it.

Maybe some pesky birds,

Nice rifle ,, but would do it justice to be topped with at least a Leupold or better.

Very nice mate, I've always loved the look of the Mannlinger style stocks - enjoy it mate and I look forward to seeing some game taken down with it.

The scope came with the rifle, and it's pretty much what I would have put on the rifle anyway. It's one of the better Bushnells and as I've never had a Bushnell before I'm giving it a go. The mounts are Tally Quick release with 30mm rings. It also has an illuminated dot reticle. I took it out to sight it in today and was happy with the scopes light gathering ability and good eye relief. If it explodes or collapses I'll look for another scope, I'm a bit off Leopolds though at the moment.

Pretty rifle. Like bigfellascott I like the looks of the Mannlicher stock.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

I must say, i would like one pretty large caliber safe queen in the future.

I love full woodstock with blued steel.

I'm starting to think of a cz550 or sako bavarian

Bill, I bought this one off used guns, it had only fired one box of ammo. There's not a lot of them around, most people get the 550 American. CZ also have a pretty impressive Safari model. I'm happy now all rifles are controlled round feed.

Here's the cartridge. A very small amount shorter than the 30-06, but a bit fatter, like it's been improved. Bore diameter .366 inch

Push feed vs controled round feed isn't that important to me, tbh.

Full stocks in big cals are a bit of a rarity these days. Some of the nice sporters are quite nice, but apart from an occassional hunt up north i would be buying it as a thing of beauty.

Im not in the market right now, anyway, but i would like something classical in a classical big cal. 416 rigby would fit the bill...

Sounds good Bill, my ultimate, no expense spared would one of Mr Rigby's rifles in 416. They are being imported by Queensland Gun Exchange, but you need around $17,000 laying around doing nothing.
