How can the US afford to import guns from australia?

I can't understand how it would be profitable to import guns from Australia. I just read that from july to december 2006 we exported 300m in arms. 84 million of which was exported to the States. Hard to see where a profit is made. Considering how cheap guns are made overseas.

They would have been military I suppose. Can't see a heap of Lithgow 22's heading Stateside. We actually do a good, value for money job on the military stuff.

Exchange rate plays a big part in it, the lower AUD makes our products more affordable for the U.S while more expensive for us buying goods overseas. I'm curious if ADI powder would come make up some of the arms exported as they sell huge amounts to the U.S.

Adi powders plus the austeyr would be my dirst guesses.

Having said that, lithgow's crossover would be very appealing o/s due to the low aud and the build quality and features. The cerakote alone makes it great value

You mates remember my thread about the price of ADI made in AUS when sold in the US vs. AUS, right?

BTW, any of you have AuSTEN loaders for Sten mags? I figure one of you must have a few kicking around from back in the day. I'd send you anything legal for me to ship that you have a hard time getting over there in return. Or cash :)

when they are exported, they are sold at "export prices", not retail prices therefore they can make a profit. it's like car parts, my tradie mate gets 40% off at repco, now imagine the markup on that product.
