Whats your best bargains you've come across?

Post by Heckler303 » 24 Aug 2015, 8:30 pm

I was thinking about this when me and dad were busy looking for a target rifle for me to use and came across and Eddystone P17 with a heavy barrel 1:16, changed to 30 calibre, in 308, aperture sights, sandbags, new stock and refurbished action all for under 400 bucks. That'll be my target rifle one day hopefully! :D

So whats your best buys you've come across before or just recently?

My best would probably be my revolver. 6" Smith & Wesson 686 with the old style front sight that you can quick change to 4 different settings. Barely done any work, came with lockable case, 300 rounds of ammo plus some unloaded brass and an H class safe for $900

M11/9 SMG with Viper-9 silencer, magazines, red dot for $2800 in 2008.

M1917A1 tripod with mount, pintle, T&E (all brass where applicable) $600

1919A4 parts kit $600 a few years ago. Only a deal by a couple hundred, but today they are over $1250.

My .40-65 Pedarsoli Sharps. It came with 50 loaded Starline shells, another 300 empties, RCBS dies, 2 Lyman and 1 NEI bullet moulds, vernier rear sight and globe front sight and sight inserts, 1.5 kg powder, powder compression die, a tin of fibre over powder wads, load data, and a Stamford case. All for $1900.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Ten point eight? Were you using a shot timer or did you have the Olympic committee judging the performance?

Ruger Mini 14 for free - thanks Dad and thanks to Mr Howard for taking it off me, although it did put out at least 20,000 rounds and only ever needed a new firing pin.

Interarms Mk10 in .308 for free off my best mate.

Omark in .308 off my best mate for free.

We used the .308's in the 80's doing Big bore.

If it wasn't for his dad, me and my best mate would've got into all sorts of strife. Taught us alot about rifles and why we use them. I miss that old bloke.

Best bargain was getting advice off the old blokes for free about how to shoot and why trouble wasn't worth getting into.

What sort of shooting do you do with that out of curiosity? Do they do events at ranges their for these kinds of FA's?

I mostly mess stuff up or knock down rows of soup cans. I have the Lage MAX-11 on mine so it beats $20K MP5s in subgun competitions :D They cry :)

Even though I run it 9mm I can bounce floating jugs in water at 100 meters, which is kind of fun with all the water spouts shooting up in the air and the jugs following them. Throw in tracers and it's even better :D But more expensive. Our Lake City military ammo facility only puts out 5.56 and 7.62 tracers when they are bored and the military doesn't want any, all milspec. 9mm tracers are aftermarket and expensive.

Subgun competitions probably run in about 20 of our 50 states. Some states have multiple ones, but the majority do not have any official ones. Doesn't stop a few rednecks from figuring out how to have some fun on the back 40 :)

Yes. Some MGs are very expensive in the US due to a ban on new manufacture for (unlicensed) civilian ownership in 1986. Once you have the receiver you can turn it into pretty much anything so they are not old guns but supply is limited. If you really have to have a whole lot of MGs you start a gun business and get licensed. Then you get them at regular prices.
