Uberti 1885s?

Post by andym79 » 14 Oct 2015, 6:14 pm

Hi guys, does anyone know if Uberti 1885 replicas are available here? I can get one from the USA but them a $1300 gun becomes a $2600 rifle. I haven't inquired with Beretta Australia or my LGS.

Just checked on the Beretta catalogue, the 1885 is listed, I think I will need to make a phone call to check about price and availability, has anyone bought one ideas on availability and price?

Try Forbes Wholesale too.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Finally picked mine up about 3 months ago!
Yes they are available through Beretta,You will be looking at around a 6 month delivery time and there has also been a price rise in the last couple of months ( 2 or 3 hundred bucks I believe )
Worth every minute of the wait and every cent of the price!!!

Well I am still thinking of buying the Uberti in the 40-65, easier to get 45-70 brass and reform, designed for black should I want to.

I would need to decide which model to go with.
A straight stock to minimise felt recoil, but I really do want the octagonal barrel. The standard sporting or the deluxe?

The deluxe has a pistol grip and is checkered. Checkering is nice, but the pistol grip doesn't look traditional. All my levers have straight stocks, I have heard that the pistol grip is however better for slower deliberate shots and is helps with reduce felt recoil.

Are either of those statements about pistol grips true?

Mine is the original straight stock with the 30 inch octagonal barrel.
It's in 45/70,I developed a what I thought was a mild hunting load ( from memory 1 - 1.5 gn lower than the min load listed in the ADI manual using 2205 and 400 gn Barnes originals ) and believe me,There was plenty of felt recoil!!!

Okay so when I say Straight stock, I mean shotgun style, straight at the rear of the stock! Is yours a straight stock with crescent butt or did you request the straight stock straight butt with the Octagonal Barrel? From looking at the Uberti website its a a choice of Round barrel and Straight stock or Octagonal barrel and crescent shaped stock. You think as they are made to order that you could get the shotgun style stock with the octagonal barrel. I shall ask.

Yes The Classic!!
Had a look at the Winnies Mr Winchester when I was shopping for mine and imo the overall finish ( Especially the timber ) off the Uberti was miles in front, and a good bit cheaper!!
And as you can see,I love my Winchesters!!!

I called up Winchester and they only offer the 1885 High wall in 220 Swift, 270, 30-06 and 300WM. If they were the only single shot that you could ever have um the 220Swift or the 30-06 would be my choice. I get them not offering it in an oddball like 40-65 or even 38-55, but you would thing they would make them in 45-70 a classic calibre for a classic rifle and still common!

If you want a modern cartridge then wouldn't you be in the market for a Ruger?

Yes, the wood on the recent (Miroku made) Winchester 1885s is certainly plain ....
I was a little surprised at the virtual absence of figure in my Anniversary model 45/70, but the wood on my 1885 .220 Swift has even less !
Ruger does a different calibre each year in the #1 V, with the offering this year being - .223
( it's hard in waiting for the .204 to make a return )

I wonder why they don't just release all the usual calibres and sell more :unknown:

It MUST be due to demand in the primary market - U.S.A.

My guess is the falling block / single shot action is currently not in fashion ....

There would be some logic to the priority.

Make something in the most popular calibre like .308 and sell until popularity starts to dip, then repeat with the second most popular calibre.

Or something similar.
