CZ550 or M70 in 375H&H?

Post by Ding89 » 29 Oct 2013, 6:20 pm

Any suggestions on rifles chambered for 375H&H? Purpose is a safari that may never happen, cutting pigs in half, and range toy. Already have a Winchester model 70 in 270 and am more than happy with it. Plan on using the sights it comes with. The CZ is a little heavier, a little longer, and holds one more in the magazine. Thanks for any input.

Not open to any other brands?

I've been mulling over a Roessler Waffen Titan 6 for a while now. Comes in 375 Ruger if you can put up with something a little "smaller" :D

Definitely open to others but these two just seem to be the two that are thought of so highly of late. Any particular reasons people like te CZs so much? Any things you don't really like about them? Thanks for te input folks.

I've got a CZ 550 Varmint in .308 that I use as bench rifle.

I love it.

Runs smooth, shooters better than I can

Nice stock. Suits me all round. No complaints.

I reckon you should buy a Ruger Guide Gun... Then lend it to me and I can see if they're good for me to buy :D

You could (check out the Guide that is, not buy Lorgar one ).

On the subject or Rugers though, the Hawkeye African comes in 375 and 416 Ruger and comes with integrated muzzle brake which is nice for the shoulder.

3" longer barrel than the Guide too which I'd prefer, given a choice between the two.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. Everyone was polite and helpful. I've lurked a lot of online forums but not posted much and the interactions I've had on here have always been pleasant. So thank you for that.

Yesterday I became the proud new owner of the model 70 safari express I 375h&h and I love it! I compared it to a few other models and it was the one that best filled my criteria.

I thought the cz was solid as a brick, the sights came up perfectly for me, and being able to have five in the magazine was a massive plus. However, the Winchester was just a bit better finished with nicer wood in my opinion (based purely on the ones I held) and felt a bit smoother.

They're certainly both hefty guns but I think we can all agree that'll be beneficial when actually shooting them but they did get really heavy even after holding them for a few minutes.

Now I just can't wait to get it out and shoot it!!!

I also have to give a massive shout out to Gary and Paul at Safari Firearms in Bexley, they were enormously patient, helpful and friendly. Thanks guys.

If you get it from a good batch, they have some excellent wood stocks.

They're all good, but some are definitely better from different batches.

Those really rich dark wood stocks you occasionally get. Mmmm.

Unfortunately, this particular one is on the light side but I can't complain - my sporter in 270win is excellent!

Their lighter coloured timbers are still good quality though.

There are plenty of other stocks which are just crap regardless
