Question about Barrel Length

Post by Erwin » 26 Dec 2015, 10:47 pm

Hi everyone
I am interested in getting a 1916 Luger P08.
The problem is the Luger P08 Standard barrel length 102mm.
Is there any possible to extension tube of steel (welded)to end of the barrel by gunsmith made barrel length enough 120mm.
then register it under H license?
Cheers

Best either find another choice or speak to a gunsmith about what it would cost. Have you looked for a longer barrelled one? They were available with barrels up to 200mm.

Anything's possible but you'd be A) spending several hundred dollars and B) modifying what may be a historical significant piece.

I'm unfamiliar with Australian gun laws but I would check into having a six inch, 152mm, barrel, from a "Naval Luger" put on it. If an actual or factory reproduction barrel is not available a gunsmith should be able to make one. But I don't know if this would be legal and if you would be allowed to keep the original short tube.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

The grabbers care little for the history, historic value, sentimentality..... back in 96/97, there number of beautiful old Garands, M1Carbs, and countless otherrifles handed in for destruction... then 5 yrs later, how many historic handguns century + old....so many 1911's, lugers, c96 mausers, countless old revolvers, literally reducing the owners to sobbing messes......

To the op, collecters licence may allow the 'short' barrel.....

G'day Erwin,
If you really want to shoot a P'08 in comp, and don't want to wreck it's originality, I would suggest buying a barrel from Lugerman.com in the US and having an Australian agent import it. It will cost US$150 for the barrel + costs which could well be up to $400. You will also need to have the barrel fitted by a gunsmith, of course. It is a process, I know, but does put you on the range without having to weld an extension on a good Luger barrel, Cheers.

That's surely going to be more time/trouble/money that's it's worth.

A replacement longer barrel would be the go, and save the shorter barrel to provide later for resale if possible.

IMO.
