Which used gun/optic websites do you rate most?

Post by Flyer » 12 Feb 2016, 4:15 pm

www.usedguns.com.au seems to be the standard - I've bought a couple of rifles from there myself - but www.ozgunsales.com seems to have a good range, too - with lots more photos for each listing. I've looked at a few other sites, but these seem to be the main two in Australia.

So I'm curious: which Aussie used-gun websites do you frequent and/or have had the most success with either buying or selling guns, optics and other accessories?

One of the reasons I ask is because I've started accumulating a few bits and pieces I need to sell, and it's simply not economical to fork out $25 in advertising fees to more than one site - so where do you normally advertise? (Yes, I know there's a free classified section here, which I will most definitely be using!)

G'day Flyer,
Usedguns is definitely the "big kid" on the block and my first port of call each day, then ozgunsales, then firearmsales.com.au. I am only a buyer though, and some friends who sell use ozguns for the lower rate, but usedguns when they are in a hurry to sell. Hope it helps your thinking, Cheers.

I've done it all I think, Bought f/arms, Sold f/arms, Bought Optics.
Only ever bother to look at usedguns.com.au

The best deals I've ever got was a 30/06 that was bought new by some guy that asked the dealer to put a scope on and sight it in for him.
The dealer was at the range and had put 6 rnds through it, when the purchaser rang him and said he had just taken a job overseas and instructed him to sell it for him on "usedguns.com"

I bought it from that dealer minus the scope, and when I got it there was not a mark on it anywhere.
I saved a couple hundred $ compared to the new price.

Soon after that I managed to get a VX 2 Leupold Silver scope for it (30/06)
It was brand new, and had never been mounted.
I got that for 1/2 the new price.

So I'm loving usedguns.com ,,,,,,,,,,, The only regret I have is that I don't own usedguns.com
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

Cheers guys. Well I posted an add in EG classies yesterday, but it still hasn't been approved. I guess it takes awhile. Patience is a virtue and all that. Still, couldn't be longer than waiting for my first firearms license...

EDIT: And as soon as I posted this, my ad went up, LOL!

I'm pretty sure it's just one guy running the site and when he gets to it.

Or in the past at least.

Compared to Yankee websites, 'UsedGuns' is a joke.

One photo only ?

Seriously ?

( Mind you, I use it a lot .... only because it seems the best, we poor bastards have ! )

The guy running UG definitely seized an opportunity.

He must be killing it being the only serious game in town.

What I don't understand is how he freely appears to circumvent the firearms laws in Vic regarding advertising (or the people posting there for that matter). Appears the police just don't care... Obviously the law is a load of bull, but still. Seems strange people posting their firearm serials and license ID's. Even this forum doesn't allow Vic people to post for sale threads.

I am a programmer. Considered making something similar but my interpretation of the Vic laws is I can't do it. Maybe if I were in another state...

Dexer, aren't licensed firearms dealers allowed to advertise in Victoria? If you look at the bottom of each ad, you'll see "Transferring dealer". Also, NSW law requires license info etc to be displayed.

While ozgunsales has better terms for sellers - more pix and info, no three-month limit on ads - its not as organised as usedguns, which is listed by caliber in alphabetical order. UG is easier to browse as a potential buyer.

Anyway, I ended up having most success by advertising on my local gun club facebook page - go figure!

Yeah, they are. But if you're not a 'licensed dealer' you're not meant to publish or cause to be published anything online. Apparently anyway... Maybe Vicpol don't seem to mind as it's such an outdated law. Even though their website still says no advertising online for non-dealers. It should just be repealed.

(1) A person must not publish or cause to be published an advertisement which advertises that a firearm is offered for sale by a person who is not a licensed firearms dealer.

It's gotta be O.K right ?

Otherwise the Nazis would break down doors, in the middle of the night.

ie: Does anyone really think the police / authorities would 'turn a blind eye' to illegal activity ?

Doesn't it cost at least 20 bucks to post an ad ...

Even for a dealer ???
