I'm not a Ruger engineer so won't expand on other factors between the two rifles, just sharing the information I have.

Like I said... Ruger Hawkeye side-by-side a Scout with the same loads, the Hawkeye did better with 6-7 loads tested.

Only my 2c.

The scout is a funny thing they seem to be either loved or hated.

They are always in high demand but plenty seem to get onto used guns at cheap prices.

Maybe people get caught up with the marketing?

I don't know I have heard a few complaints about the action being crap compared to the normal M77 rifles.

Marketing for sure was a biggie.

A lot of people definitely LOVE the idea of the Scout rifle (whether they need it or not).

I think the people that hate it feel that way just because of all the Scout fanatics who won't shut up about it

There's no such thing as bad press though, right?

All the people saying they hate it are still talking about it...

Was just saying in another thread, I've seen them going plenty of times above RRP.

Find a 'love' person during a shortage and you can apparently make a few coin.

I certainly don't hate it. Just not the rifle for me.

I have a Tikka now but previously had 2 of the M77 Hawkeyes (.308 and .243)

Compared to the Hawkeyes I just found the Scout...

Too heavy.
No gain for the shorter barrel - Where I hunt it's not an issue.
More blast from the shorter barrel without any gain...
Not as accurate with the 6-7 loads we tested.
Will never use the picatinny rail.

Internal box magazine in the Hawkeye is 4 shots and top feeds - Very easy, fast to load.
Loading the detachable 10 shot in the Scout is a pain in the ass for me. And only need a 3rd of that ammo loaded for hunting.

Not hate. Just not for me.
