If it is said that a Marlin is "JM" stamped,,,,,

Where would one find it ?

On the barrel just after the reciver on the left hand side.

All modern marlins are stamped JM or RM indicating which factory they were made in. There were a few remminton rifles assembled with marlin made barrels also.

JM Proof stamp stands for John Mahlon Marlin who founded the Marlin rifle in 1870 in Conneticut;
2. RM is the proof stamp for Remington Marlin took over the company in 2009 or there abouts, huge quality control issues and inferior standards vs those stamped JM and built in CT..

the JM stands for John Marlin. JM stamp on a Marlin (generally) means it was made pre-shut down of the Marlin factory. RM are the Remington Marlins. there are some JM stamped from during the transition where they were assembled in the new factory. These from what I've heard can be pretty bad quality wise. The post-take over "Remlins" were pretty hit an miss for a while. timber finish was sub-par and even metal work wasn't great. mine had a nice burr left on the ejection port.

haven't seen any recent ones but have heard from others that they are ok now.

So mine is "JM" stamped, and is an XLR 336 Stainless in excellent condition. (Only had about 25 rnds thru it.)

My Model 60 is one made under Remington's ownership. Anyone not liking their "Remlin" can ship it to me and I'll gladly pay the cost of shipping. Now I'll admit to mine's being close to 5 years old now and is one of the blued with synthetic stock. Now it took a couple of hundred rounds to get it broken in and I'll admit to using Federal's and Remington's "dirty" cheap ammo so while the action was getting smoother and the trigger getting better too, I did experience the occasional miss-fire which may have been caused by either faulty priming or the bolt not being into full battery, except for a couple of rounds they all fired when ran through the gun again. The Model 60 has beat every Ruger 22 rimfire it's gone against, take that for what it is worth. With the non-budget priced 22 ammo the Marlin is near minute of angle, or better, accurate. I will shoot better than me.

Now I also have a 17 year old Marlin Model 39A, first outing to the range the extractor broke. Do you know how frustrating that is, a gun you laid out nearly $300 for busts on it's first box of ammo? Yes Marlin fixed it and it's worked like a champ since, don't ask me how many bricks of 22s have gone down it's bore but probably enough to have bought me another gun or three.

I have 2 BA XL7s. Both are.7 moa shooters. My only grizzle is the 223 had a sticky follower in the mag. I cant find either stamp on them but the older (3006) has made in Nth Haven ky and the newer one (223) Mayfield ct. Im guessing the 3006 is out o the original factory?
