Steyr rifles not popular?

Post by Triang » 06 Nov 2013, 8:02 pm

Hi,

Wondering how many people here have a Steyr rifle?

The Australian military uses Steyr AUG's as we know, which I guess is high praise... Never see a Steyr bolt action at the range though?

A few yanks seem to like 'em, but no where near the fanbase for Remington, Ruger, Tikka or any of the rest.

Any reason their bolt actions rifles don't have much of a following here?

Cost would be the first thing that comes to mine for me.

Their synthetic stock sporter is about $1,900 or something from memory.

Walnut hunter is $3,000.

Not exactly loose change.

No shortage of quality choices on offer for that money either...

Their Scout rifle is $3,200 or something too :?

At a grand, now wonder the Ruger Gunsight Scout is so popular.

Steyr make some fine rifles, but at two or three times the price they're never going to be as widely adopted as a Tikka, Ruger, Howa and so on.

Everyone love's an AUG.

An ex-army mate of mine has some mad photos and videos of his unit training with them in East Timor from years ago.

I wouldn't say they're not popular mate. I have a savage 1895 and it's pretty good for a hundred year old rifle :D. The newer models seem to be overpriced though since you can pay $1000 for a rifle that does the same as a $3000 Steyr rifle

Hey mate,

Wasn't suggesting their unpopular because they're a bit crap or anything

Just curious why they didn't have a bit more of a following.

Like you aid others said, the price seems like a serious barrier for many.
