A year wait for a Ruger... C'mon

Hi guys,

A budding shooter and new forum member here :)

A mate recently introduced me to shooting and got me started on his Ruger Hawkeye chambered in .257 Roberts.

I liked it and decided to get the same rifle for myself.

Calling around for it, one of the store guys told me that if they had to order it I could expect a 12-18 month wait for Ruger to sent one...

18 months? Er, what?

He was keen to show me other calibre Hawkeye's or other stuff they had in stock, but I don't know if he was on the level or just trying to take me for a ride.

Luckily my mate was kind enough to sell me his .257 Roberts as an excuse to buy something new

For the store though, it's not like I'm asking for some hand crafted amazing rifle. Ruger must be one of the most common rifles in the world...

Is it seriously taking a year or more to have a rifle supplied from the USA these days?

I don't know about 18 months.. but with the gun control fears in the states over the past 12 months shortages are certainly nothing new.
See you on the firing line.

With the talks of semi-auto bans in the states a lot of the yanks are stock piling stuff for fear of it no longer being available.

Because of this a lot of manufacturers are putting all their efforts into their AR platforms, and they still can't sell them fast enough apparently.

At least you got your mates one off him and skipped the wait ;)

I'd say its probably more a lack of mainstream popularity more then anything.
Did you consider another brand of rifle chambered in .257?

Not that I'm a massive Ruger fan, but "not mainstream popular" ?
