Alot of synthetic stocks are like that, not much you can do apart from what the above poster mentioned, you could remove the stock and relieve the areas that touch but it wont look to pretty. Easiest option would be to get a replacement stock.
You'll probably find when you go to shoot it on the bench that the fore end flexes alot while your trying to line up your shots.

you could try loosening the action screws and retorque them to see if it settles straight otherwise take it back asap

Agree, but could be a very small bur/fault near the action.

If I could not fix easily I would return it. Have a look under the action for small burs. Would not take a lot to cause that..

Will do and let you guys know - it's a Remington 783 in .243.
Sadly they have used imperial sized hex bolts so I'm going to have to go shopping this weekend. I have the metric size slightly too large and slightly too small!
If it really is touching on one side, then it could induce horizontal dispersion. When you loosen the take-down bolts to try and re-position it symetrically in the fore end channel, test the bedding while you are at it. Crook bedding can cause vertical dispersion. If you don't know how to test, pm me.
Had the same prob ob my Rem 700 SPS. Cheap rifle means cheap crappy metal to stock finish. The loosen/adjust/retorque idea worked but only temporarily as after a little time the gap between the channel and barrel would close up again. I ended up hacking off some material with a stanley blade and eventually replaced the stock with a Boyds because those plastic stocks are good for nothing but the rubbish bin.
