Two piece barrel bench/sporter combo?

Post by kritch » 11 Nov 2013, 9:33 am

One of my crack pot ideas probably but here goes :D

For accuracy, a long heavy barrel's usually the best as a general rule.

Carrying around truck axle of a rifle for hunting though obviously isn't fun.

Does anyone do anything like a 26" heavy barrel rifle, that you can screw off 8" of the barrel to take it down to a 18" to make it portable?

Like a bench/sporter combo?

Not just a rifle with a replaceable barrel?

Plenty of those already...

Pretty sure he means just a screw on/off barrel extension.

Nice idea, but I think you'd have also sorts of problems with lining up rifling.

Wear around the join in the barrel as well.

At and the end of the day you've still got a two piece barrel which I can't imagine could shoot any better than a single barrel. Worse probably?

I think replaceable barrels is as close as you're going to get.

Yep.

Mismatched rifling = jammed bullet = bad stuff happens to your fingers.

It is a good idea though. But if it was doable someone would have done it by now.

Just get a rifle built with switch barrels, it works great if you have a good smith.
