fired cases difficult to extract remington 7615

Post by ozbluei » 28 Jun 2016, 8:34 pm

Had a slight issue today at the range. As I was shooting my Remington 7615 (.223) the cases were becoming progressively more difficult to extract as the gun warmed up. Which hasn't happened before in my years of owning it. Gave up before it got too difficult and one got stuck.

The ammo was handloaded, full length resized and not loaded too hot (20.0 gr AR2207 with 50gr projectiles). Of course the pump action needs technique and doesn't have the best extraction to start with...

Come up with 2 theories 1/too much case lube left on case (just wiped it off with a rag) 2/chamber too dirty (I just clean the rifle with a bore snake).

Has anyone had a similar problem ?

Theory No2 would be my best guess. I couldnt imagine a snake would do a great job.

ozbluei,
You are in for an Awful Experience, if you are going to clean your Remington. That is, if my experience with my 7600 is any guide. I have not had a problem with mine and cannot say if cleaning is the right fix. IMO, avoiding damage to the muzzle is paramount. How you go about that is a Killer
Let me know if you want to hear about it.

did your rifle come with a chamber brush? give it a good scrub with bore solvent(hoppes no9) and tumble your cases after re sizing, wiping them doesn't get off all the lube and takes to long( I know from person experience..

Yes the rifle came with a chamber brush but I lost it a long time ago. I'm going to take the rifle apart and give it a proper clean. Going to try and make or source another chamber brush.

From what I've read, I'll just tumble the finished ammo to make sure there's no lube left on it. I'm using RCBS water based case lube. f*** trying to pick all the media out of the flash holes.

Dirty chamber must be the answer because at first there was no issue and the problem with extraction got worse as the gun heated up. Thanks for the replies.

What ever you do..!!
Please, don't Tumble Live Ammo.
If you want to get rid of case lube then just get some Shellite / White Spirits and put some on a cloth and wipe the outside of your lubed cases.

Why not ? You don't give your reasons. But if you think that it affects the powder somehow then that has been disproved many times. eg
Also, you do realize all factory ammo is tumbled after it is loaded ?

Okay, if you have the research then go ahaed.

I was more thinking of the dangers, but you feel there are none. Go ahead.

Not my choice to risk. It's your life.

I'm just an old fogie.

It's alone the same story of those that risk removing live primers.

Thank you for your concern. I don't think tumbling for 10 minutes to remove residue is a problem. and yes I do remove live primers also - I was a bit wary on the first one- but after removing many many and reusing them, you realize that it's not a problem.
