Scrapping a firearm

Post by AusTac » 23 Aug 2016, 10:15 am

Hey fellas,

Just wondering what the go is if i were to scrap a rifle, i've been toying with the idea of scraping my worst enfield as the sporter stock and barrel are junk along with a cross threaded action screw, i was thinking take everything offand just hand in the registered parts? Can you just go to the gunshop to make it all legit?

I assume action/barrel/bolt body, its a real shame  but i could get another and have some parts if i get rid of it, otherwise i'll trade it for no doubt a low dollar amount..

Suck but it is what it is

As above, strip it for all the parts you can and hand in a bare action. Sounds like the parts value would be greater than the rifle as a whole.

Just scrap the action only, keep everything else.
Personally I'd transfer the action and bolt to somebody that would appreciate it rather than scrap it, threads can be repaired.
Which model is the rifle and what sort of money would you want for it as is?
I've been toying with building myself a MkIII for a while now.

I have a Longbranch No4Mk1* already.

EDIT: Not Longreach, those are bricks :-)

I was thinking if it would be worth anything to anyone but i've got no idea, and i tapped the hole i think its more the screw head/threads that are boogered

Its a maltby no4 mk 1 rifle, thats been sporterized by some twit

I'm actually wanting to get rid of it to find a longbranch actually haha

Weld it up and re-drill it?
Don't want another No4 but it could be perfect for somebody that wants to build one.
Throw an ad out there and see if you get any interest maybe?

To get your motivation flowing, I should eventually get around to posting pictures of my No.4 Mk. 1 Longbranch, drilled and tapped for a side-mount scope. It's quite nice looking nice I've restored it a bit.

Can't wait :-)
I like the No4 sights so I haven't planned to scope it.
But if there is a nice compact rail that allows a QD scope I'd certainly consider it.
Running a long eye relief scout mount on my M1904/39 currently and don't like it at all.
I made up a mount to put the scope offset to the left a bit like a Garand scope setup. I really like it using my left eye and it retains the irons in line with my right eye. But the offset can't handle the recoil of full-power loads so I need to design something to handle the leverage better.
