Tikka T3X Varmint Receiver Plastic Plugs

Post by Troikken » 25 Aug 2016, 7:41 pm

Hi all. I've noticed that the receiver on my new TX3 Varmint has 5 plastic plugs and my picatinny rail has 4 mount screws. Do I leave the remaining plastic plug in place or do I remove it before fitting the picatinny rail? Any help is much appreciated.

Pulled them all out. I figured the pic rail would keep the hole sealed up on the spare mount hole.

Looks like the kind of thing that falls out over time anyway.

Was the 5th one threaded or just space for a rail recoil lug?

As TheDude said it's a bigger hole for the recoil lug in the ring, your rail should have a lug too, push it forward against the lug before final lock up of the screws, this takes the load of those tiny screws during recoil

So why are they there to start if you're just supposed to pull them all out? :unknown:

To protect the threads(for the threaded holes) and keep crap out before a scope is fitted. At least some of those holes are drilled right through the receiver too, so it keeps stuff from getting into the action also.

If memory serves me correct you just push them through the receiver (Im sure that's what my mate said to do) anyway he did whatever he did when he put my mounts on at the shop. They are just there to protect the threads from my understanding.
