I picked up another nice rifle a couple of weeks ago, an 1895 Spanish Mauser Carbine in 7.62.

Ive done a few things to tidy up the rifle and I'm happy with the aesthetics, now I just have to bed it and ill be done.

I have written a blog post about it here http://trumpychris.blogspot.com.au/2016/09/1895-spanish-mauser-carbine-762-nato.html

I put some rounds through it out at my range and it seems to be a sweet shooter and it has nothing like the recoil of the Mosin M44!

I'm taking this rifle on a pig hunt on Saturday, it should do the job quite nicely.

G'day mate,
Just remember these small ring Mausers, like the 1916's and FR-7, were converted for the low pressure 7.62x51 CETME, then later approved for the 7.62x51 NATO, but were never proofed for the NATO round, only the CETME. Many of these rifles have suffered damage from 308 Win loads (including one of mine 40 years ago, before i knew more) and your plan to load light is a good one. Cheers.

Sorry, forgot to ask, did you remove the saddle ring or was it not there when you bought it?

The saddle ring was missing, but I have found a site in the states that has some in stock.

I'm definitely not going to run full power 308 loads in this thing. I generally only use 150s or 155s with that charge. That load with 155 dyers shot a 105.14 at 500yds from my target rifle. Seems to run well in this rifle too.
