Marlin 1894 in 44MAG

Image

ooooooooooo it's here! Now I just need to go shoot it! I have considered a red dot, but the rails and the sights that the shop had won't really what I was after, so left it as is. Glad I did.

A buddy had one in 357 and it out perfomed solids out of a shotgun by quite a way.very fast follow up shots.Pistol rounds like a longer barrel. Are you going to handload?

I am not sure what you mean by outperformed solids out of a shotgun? How do you quantify 'outperform'?

You might think about receiver sights, peep sights, Williams and Lyman offer them. I really like the Williams' receiver sight I have on my Marlin 39A.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

Good looking gun mate. I drool over any lever action but 44 is up there as one of the coolest in my books. Just out of interest what did it set you back and how long were you waiting? I've been looking at a 357 or 44 lever and have it down to the Marlin or the Henry

How's the quality of Marlin's rifles nowadays? They've been have some QC issues in the past so I wonder what the quality is like now.

Is the receiver a different finish to the barrel? Or is that just the photo?

Nice gun mate let us know how it goes

Nice one JS, glad I helped push you over the line. Hard to beat the look and feel of a nice lever. Do yourself a favour , don't put optics on it. A peep sight maybe, but don't ruin the lines. Their effective range for hunting is well within plain eyesight and they are never going to be pinpoint accurate. Keep it open sights and have a blast. Great fun guns and a great gun if you bring newbies to the range.

Nice choice I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I thought my home made solids were all the deal till my mate hunted with me with his 357 levergun.Out of a smoothbore shotgun solids are only accurate to 75 metres unless you have a rifled shotgun barrel. The energy of a 1oz solid dissipates a lot faster than a lighter projectile out of a 20 inch rifle barrel

I would have thought that (bentaz look away now), pretty much anything outperforms a shotgun...

Also I had a falling block greener shotgun that I could cycle quickly but with a lever gun you can do it of the shoulder.Your .44 has a lot more grunt and with practice you will hopefully be suprised at how quick you can pick up a target

i wish Marlin would pull their finger out and start making the 1894c (in 357 Mag) again. I'd love to get my hands on one. Absolutely no hope visible though on the american forums and gun talk sites. sh*t state of affairs..

Ordered Skinner sight. Think it will be nice. I held back on ordering the same for my Browning BL22. There's just something inside me stopping me from tweaking that rifle.
