Aren't .224 caliber Howa's a 12" barrel twist?
Will they stabilise 69gn bullets?

That's more like it.
How "new" do you mean though?
Is there still stock of unsold 12"-barreled Howa's?

I have the same rifle.
It should group around 1/2 Moa with the 69g Outback ammo. Three shot groups
I personally found that projectiles from 52 to 55g group the best. My rifle is a 1/9 twist.
Cheers and have fun.

i think they stopped making the 1/12 twist rate back when they introduced the HACT trigger but i cant find much information on when they exactly stopped doing the 1/12

Serial numbers from B312235 onwards are 1-9" twist.

I think this number was passed a couple of years ago. There may still be a few floating around that are 1:12" but most, i assume, would now be 1:9" twist.

So the twist rate even in the long action in a .223 would more than likely be a 1 in 9?

Yup. As far as i am aware, they don't make 223rem in 1:12 twist at all, anymore.

Get a Trigger Job done on it if you want it to shoot better (the triggers on the Howa's are a bit heavy/creepy generally and really benefit from a trigger job (own 3 diff Howa's with 3 diff factory triggers) all are brilliant to use now after Glens work - I can recommend him 100% his work is 1st Class as far as I'm concerned and I wouldn't bother sending mine to anyone else ever!

ok so i just got home from the range and honestly im really amazed at how nice this gun is to shoot, cycled flawlessly from the internal mag and was nice and smooth the trigger on the other hand felt like i was waiting a half hour before it would go off took alot to not flinch on this gun the best i got with a 5 shot group at 100 metres was under half inch for 3 shots easy but then 2 would go and fly out and make it just under a inch plus it didnt help i had a bloke sitting next to me with a 7mm rem mag with a brake on it tryed 200 for something got 2 inch group but i was finding it hard to see with only 3-9x40 leupold but overall im happy with it well worth the money.

It was info off another forum. A member had emailed Howa's US distributors for the details.
