Gearing lever action for shorter throw?

Post by beepar » 18 Nov 2013, 9:28 am

Random and hopefully not too stupid question here :D

For lever action rifles, do they do anything to reduce the lever throw when cycling a round?

I'm picturing something like a short-shift kit for a manual car.

Not sure if something similar exists for rifle actions that can reduce how much you need to swing the lever?

I think the closest you're going to get is getting a straight grip one?

It's not really like 'short shift' kit or anything, but the way the handle and stock are positioned you can keep your hand closer to the stock so in effect there is less "throw".

Sort of an answer?

Interesting idea.

I'm sure it could be done, but the gearing for a shorter throw would make it harder to push the lever.

Gotta find the right balance I suppose?

Yep the Cowboy Action guys have been doing it for a while now. There's even a kit made: http://shop.pioneergunworks.com/product ... tegoryId=2

And people who can tell you how to install it

Interesting...

Didn't know there were such things either. That's something I'm going to have to have a look at.

This is just to shave of a fraction of time if you're doing comps right?

Can't say I ever thought a lever throw was real long...

Doesn't sound like much but taking 1/10th of a second of each cycle could be win or lose in a timed event.
Good news, everyone!
