The Tikkler T3x 308 hunter has landed

Post by bigfellascott » 12 Nov 2016, 7:54 am

I picked up the new Tikkler 308 fluted Hunter yesterday, should do the job on the pigs, deer and dogs, I put my 3-9x50 Nikon Prostaff on top in a set of Leupold mounts, the triggers been adjusted to it lightest and I will source a spring to make it lighter as it's not quite light enough for my liking (it's not bad but not up to my Howas triggers but easy enough to sort out with a lighter trigger)

Anyway here's some pics

I thought it was about time I closed the cal gap - I can't keep shooting big stuff with little cal, everyone gets the s**ts when I do, now I can be like the rest of you bastards and shoot s**t in the arse instead of the head :D

Seriously though I wanted a lighter rifle to carry around the hills after pigs mainly and the Tikklers are light as a rule so figured I'd give one a run, worse comes to worse I can always sell it if it's not what I want performance wise (I'm sure it won't have to come to that but ya never know) :D .

Very nice bigfella, I like how you set the pics up on the wood pile too. I'm thinking about a T3X in 308 myself for the same reasons you described, I've played with a couple in store and they are very nice for the $$$, much lighter and more compact than my other rifles so would make an ideal carry around gun.

Cheers mate, the ol wood pile (well splitting block) is about the only thing I have around here that I can sit a rifle on outside, I guess I could use the grass but not real keen on putting it on that after the rain we had the day before so the splitting block usually gets the gig as its off the ground slightly too (too hard getting down to take pics for me) well the getting downs not to bad its the getting back up that can present a few issues

I think this set up will suit me fine (hope so anyway) it's lightish without being stupid light, shoulders fine which is important for this type of use, I've got a leather sling on it now which will come in handy for carrying and keeping it a little steadier when shooting off hand and I also have a bipod I can put on it if the need arises, anyway time will tell if its the right choice for the job or not. :drinks:

Don't forget to let us know which way you decided to go, there are a lot of nice rifles out there at the moment and all are worth considering.

Congrats Mate, it does look nice.
I think the wood pile makes a great setting, especially with the garden background.
Certainly makes for some fine pics.

I went the T3 over the howa because of weight also. By the time you add a scope, bipod and maybe a torch they get pretty heavy.

Bare it was 3.5kg Vs 2.8kg and the T3 might shoot a touch better looking at the reviews.

Yeah it's easier to cart a light rifle up hill and down dale hence my decision to go with the Tikkler for this job. The Howa's are fantastic rifles for the money, 3 of them now and all shoot very well indeed (many many 5 shot 5c piece or smaller groups out of them) so they do shoot real well, I don't buy complete rifles though I generally buy the Barreled Actions and import Boyds stock for them as I prefer timber over plastic, having said that I did consider the plastic tikkler for a brief moment as I know its more practical in some ways for hunting but I just couldn't do it, the feel of them just doesn't do it for me and they look bloody ordinary to say the least, if they did one in a nice composite stock I would definitely seriously have a look at one as some of those aftermarket comp stocks are alright I reckon and maybe one day this one gets to wear one, who knows? :D

So hows your's shoot?

No idea yet. It gets into my LGS this week. I will probably have my PTA by the end of the week but it will be a few weeks till i get out

I certainly prefer the timber or laminated stock over black plastic but its solely a light rifle for hunting.
It was pretty cheap so i don't mind too much if it gets a bit of weather or banged around in a ute occasionally.

Edit. I still may get a pepper grey prarie hunter stock from boyds one day :D

Not fluted, just the stainless barrel with black plastic stock.

When its the right caliber, near new and a great price you can't be too choosy. :D

Cheers mate, I like the look of the fluted barrels too and they just make it that little bit easier to point too I reckon due to being slightly less weighty up front and yep I love the little Nikon PS - doesn't cost a fortune and is nice and clear/sharp and works brilliantly up to last light so should suit this outfit nicely I reckon.
