I'm happy with a bayonet that represents. Doesn't bother me. Matching parts rifles though , that's a different story.

I have heard the original ones are a tad delicate, original design was single use only. I believe you can buy plastic reproduction ones that are far more durable.

On the subject of clips, the original cardboard clip is quite tough and durable if not overly abused. I have been using mine almost every month for 8 years and have not ruined one yet, apart from one I stood on.

Supaduke,
Whilst the 1918 bayonet is the usual model for the K31, it was also issued to specialist troops with the 1914 Pioneer Sawback, a very impressive bit of kit!

Nice pretty impressive really. I am not a history buff but to have a straight pull at that period seems pretty impressive where they the first?

Not sure who was the first. The original Schmidt Rubin was 1889. There were a few others I’ve seen mention of around 1895.

Winchester manufactured the "Lee Model" in 1895. A straight pull, 5 shot, magazine fed rifle in .236 U.S.N. ( Sometimes called the 6mm Lee Navy )
Serial number 1 rifle was sold in 1896. The original factory loading was a 112gr spitzer @ 2550 f/s. It is actually the parent case that Winchester based the .220 Swift on.
The original cartridge suffered due to the inconsistencies of the smokeless powders of the day. The same reason that blackpowder cartridges were chambered in more of the early 1894 Winchesters instead of the .30-30 which was the first "sporting" cartridge designed to use smokeless.

The first military straight pull was Ritter von Mannlichers 1886, Schmidts action was a year later but of a quite different design. Mannlicher used a cam and wedge design where Schmidt used a rotating cam sleeve. Both were developed into reliable actions that proved superior to Lee's or Ross's, Cheers.

I put a picture of the unit markings up for you no.1.

Shame the quality of the photo was lowered dramatically, the wood and metal on it is pristine despite being a babushka. Soon though it will be paired with a Lee-Enfield when the dealer sends me some photos of the new ones he received.

Lets face it, who doesen't want a Lee-Enfield?

Just read this thread due to your cross reference. Thats an interesting gun. I guess you have to give any soldier that ends up with an enemy's rifle a break I am sure he would like to remove the markings.

Sungazer, I do have a bit of a collection now. But I'm picky. I like weird and wonderful so to speak. Excluding some classics. I still want an Arisaka, I think I'll find one next month at the militaria expo. I wanted a K98, but this Israeli one is perfect, just need to pickup original stock for it. And I think that's where my milsurp interest ends (for now). All in all, I have about 8 or 9 rifles on my to find list :) Mostly modern though, with a hint of old Americana. With Cat H looming, I'm putting a break on, to start saving for that :) Really want a single action 45LC and 1911 45ACP :/ Damn addictions.

ZxRR even with the lower quality picture you can see the luster in the wood around the hand grip. It has a few bits where wood has broken off that have been sanded back to fix jagged edges.

G'day juststarting,
After the war soldier settlers were opening up the rural landscape, and machinery was in very short supply and extremely expensive. The Stuart was obsolete (probably even before the war!) and the government of the day offered them free to any group or co-op of farmers who applied to use as tractors for land clearance and ploughing. After a while farms became self sufficient, new tractors became available and the old Stuarts and Matildas were parked in the back paddock and forgotten. I was offered one that was at A1 Mine Town many years ago, but the Mrs wouldn't let me park it on the front nature strip. Collectors pay BIG money for them now and unless the owner is keeping them for himself there is a large sum of money in that pic of bentaz's, Cheers.

All in all there were 9 tanks (or most of 9 tanks) sitting in the yard with a pile of wheels, tracks and giant engines.
I'll be keeping the location to myself for now while I look into trying to buy one.

Effin nice find!!!  :drinks:

Winchesters will definitely command a premium. However i have seen a few p14s and m17s pop up on used guns and ozgunsales from time to time.

I did find this winchester p14 sniper if you're willing to spend almost 15k :D https://www.usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=119222

yes I saw that, and to be honest, it is probably worth that money being a P14 Winchester Sniper rifle. A little over my budget mate. A good/very good condition P14 303 is what I am looking for, please spread the word mate.
