Show me your milsurps

I'm a big fan of milsurp rifles. I have a few and really enjoy the history and character. I thought I would start a thread for milsurp fans to show their wares. I would like to keep it to military rifles in unsporterized original configuration. Tell us anything interesting about them. What it likes to shoot and how well. I really enjoy seeing what others have. I will start with one of my favourites.

I picked this up about a year ago. The bore, action and parkerising are mint. It's only a 2 groove barrel but it will group about 2-3 inches at 100m. The wood has a few dings but no cracks or splits.
Shoots nicely with a 174gr fmj bullet , pushed along by a mild load of 38gr 2208.
Has the war production 600m-300m flip style aperture sight.
Made in America for the British circa 1942.
I have more but I thought I would get the ball rolling.

My latest one: U.S Rifle, Caliber .30, Model 1917. Or just M17. Made in november 1918, original everything, barrel looks almost new. I managed 1.6 in @ 100m last weekend. Very happy with it

Pretty nice, who manufactured it? It looks a bit Eddystone-ish.

Also, leave it uncocked next time. Just pull the trigger when sliding the bolt home, hate finding them that have had their springs compressed for so long.

Yup, Eddystone, all parts Eddystone (weirdly enough the stock has an E for Eddystone but also a W for Winchester, not sure whats the deal with that). I just closed the bolt to take the pic, so it wasnt cocked for long. In any case the rifle is almost unused, so all the springs are strong as hell, specially the bolt release spring.... taking the bolt in an out (usually a 1 finger affair with my k98) requires putting the rifle down and using both hands and a bit of force.

Recommended! I found a (non damaging) clamp on scope mount for it that turns it into a tack driver, and it seems to hold it zero after you take it off. And also you can use .308 projectiles on it so reloading for it is fairly cheap (as long as you have the brass)

Some nice old rifles there. Hoping to pick up my Mosins this week. They are at the shop but haven't had a chance to get down there and pick them up. Keep those pictures coming, great seeing all the old war horses. And Bentaz , that's actually an M38 I think. The carbine. Turned down handle means it was made as a M38. M96s have a straight bolt and are quite a bit longer. :)

G'day bentaz,
As Superduke noted your Swede is an M38, but it's correct nomenclature is "Short Rifle", the carbine M94 & M94/14 was shorter again. You can also find M38's with the straight bolt handle as many M96 were converted to Short Rifle configuration, and amongst collectors are referred to as M38/96, though this is not official Swedish nomenclature. In Swedish service the Short Rifle was referred to as M38 whether it was a new made Husqvarna or a cut down 96. Cheers.

Sorry, made a mistake. The correct usage is to use lower case for the description, so it m/96, m/94 and m/38. They also made a .22 m/38 Trainer but it is unknown if it was adopted into service or only used by the FSR. Cheers.

G'day bentaz,
That's the crest of the Spanish Air Force as applied to the model 1943 Mauser made at La Coruna Arsenal. These K98 style rifles were supplied to the Army, Air Force, and Civil Guard each with their own crests. They are often found with a bayonet adaptor very similar to the Argentine 1909 to be able to fit the earlier model bayonet as well as the 1943 bayonet which was exactly the same as the German s84/98. In fact most G43 bayonets were German made, but unmarked. Cheers.

Hey No1mk3,

You wouldn't happen to have a P14/M1917 bayonet or an SMLE bayonet in there you wouldn't mind parting with would you? ;)

G'day Heckler303,
Sorry, my collection is sort of like a Black Hole, things go in OK, but very rarely does anything make it's way back out again! Best option apart from fleabay, where prices are often silly, is the gun shows or auctions. Have seen some cheap prices for P'07 and P'13 bayonets at the last auction, the problem is Roland combines lots and you have to buy 3 to get what you want, then sell off the 2 you don't want. Still, you can get a bargain if the 2 you sell cover most of the value of what you want, Cheers.

G'day juststarting,
The one I attend most is the Australian Arms Auctions, held twice a year, first weekend in May and October at Eley Rd Blackburn. Even if you don't buy, the chance to see and hold some amazing firearms is hard to pass. Last auction had a large number of Manton duelling pistols, things I could never afford but had the chance to hold them and dream, there was also a genuine L42A1 sniper in it's original transit case with accessories which I held. Sold for $13K which I thought was cheap. The website is australianarmsauctions dot com, and the catalogue complete with pics usually appears about 2 weeks prior, Cheers.
