How not to clean your new mag

Post by sandgroperbill » 18 Dec 2016, 11:35 pm

So... I got my new 17hmr, cleaned out the packing grease (wasn't a lot there), take it out and put a few rounds through it (just shooting off hand at 100m at a 600ml bottle). Gave it another clean and oil, and into the safe.

Yesterday, went took it out of the safe, installed some weaver bases and a spare scope I had laying around, go to grab the mag and...

Oh no. Where's the mag?

Must have fallen out my pocket and gone under the seat of the ute I was in. Give the ute owner a call to see if he can check for me, no answer, so leave a voicemail.

After I've gotten back, i have my response from him on message bank. Nope not there.

Oh dear... I wonder if...

Yup. Left it in the pocket of my cargo pants.

So, the new mag is nice and clean from the washing machine.

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

Could be worse. No harm, no foul.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

Should be ok, give it a squirt of WD or similar for any of the metal parts and I'm sure it will be fine.

I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere about having a clean shot but my minds fried atm lol. Hope it doesn't have any undue affects long term.

Give it a good spray mate, it will be right I'm sure and wipe the excess off after a few days and after each use give it a quick wipe over with an oily rag and it should be sweet I reckon. :drinks:

The way I see it is it's no biggie, just one of those things. Worst case scenario, II'll upgrade to a ten shot mag.

A dunk in some dish washing detergent to get any chemicals whatever off it, a wipe with your favorite lube, and bang it in, no big deal :) just pretend it went out on a rainy day
