Crossman 1077

Post by Ed9362 » 25 Jan 2017, 8:41 am

HI guys.

I have a bit of a problem with Indian mynas.

I would like to deal with them discreetly at a distance of about 15m.

I like the idea of the Crossman 1077.

I have no knowledge on this firearm so my question is does this rifle have enough power and accuracy to do the job.
Cheers,

I've used one.

They're certainly accurate enough at 15m

Certainly quiet enough

Really underpowered. Probably enough for a small bird but not enough for rabbits IMHO. Don't ask .

The big problems are that once you pierce a co2 cannister you kinda need to use it all or it just leakes out over the next day. So once you load it up take one shot you've just wasted $1-3 of co2 canister for $0.01 of pellets.

Also has a double action trigger that sucks balls.

Imho it's a plinker... But too expensive for plinking cause of the co2 only gets you like 30 good shots.

I'd be looking at a low powered springer

Thanks for that.

I didn't think of the gas leaking.

A mate of mine bought one of these as he got it real cheap.
I had a shoot with it. It's a toy

I think he's played with it a few times, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Like nerf guns.

Same for me when I had one.

Don't get the guys at all who are big into air rifle shooting :unknown:

Whatever though, each their own.

As far as I'm aware it is illegal to shoot mynas in Victoria unless you have a cull permit.
I would think just about any air rifle should be easily able to deal with them if your shooting is good.

I can see a low powered np .177 Springer for fun cheap quiet plinking. 500 pellets for $7-8

We have a guy at work who takes nearly 100 bunnies a week with his expensive PC airguns

Have a look on Youtube for air rifle hunting. Especially in the U.K and U.S. Some fella's do some pretty impressive shooting with them.

Crossman 1077 = POS

The 1077 is guaranteed to give you the excitement of the purchase, the anticipation of receiving your firearm and the disappointment of it's lousy performance with the added inconvenience of it needing to be treated as a real firearm.

I came very close to buying one but luckily a mate of mine got his first.

I thought they were an introduced species and classified as a pest.
That's not to say they aren't protected. I was going to say that they normally wouldn't stop people from killing pest species, but then remembered that in parts of Vic, they do exactly that.

Noisy Miner is native and endemic to Sth-estn Australia.

Common or Indian Miner originates in Asia, is introduced and declared invasive species.

It is introduced but that doesn't automatically make it fair game.

I believe if you have problem pests you apply for a cull permit which will allow you to legally deal with a specific quantity.

I can't find anything that says you can't shoot them if you satisfy all other legal requirements (location, licencing obligations for firearms, etc). There are urban groups with gov supported control programs that use traps and euthanasia.

I'm inclined to think you're correct.

http://www.mynabirdtraps.com.au/disposal-of-birds/

"Legislative Status - The Indian Myna is not a declared pest animal under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994. The Department of Primary Industries does not consider it reasonable to impose the lawful responsibility of control of Indian Mynas upon all landowners (including those in suburbia) when it is unlikely to result in the desired outcome of ‘eradicate or control or prevent its spread in the wild’ (the requirements that must be satisfied to be able to declare a species). The Department does not implement specific programs to control Indian Mynas.
This species is not specifically protected by law in Victoria, and so a person may capture and/or destroy these birds by appropriate legal and humane methods."
