Do safety features and rep play a part in your rifle choice?

Post by Khan » 07 Feb 2017, 12:17 pm

I was at my LGS on the weekend looking at some rifles, and dealt with a guy I hadn't spoken with before.

We went through a bunch of rifles like Ruger's, Remmington's, Sako's etc...

We go to a Sauer rifle and conversation turned to safety features. Not the actual safety of the rifle, but like number of locking lugs, ports, build strength etc. etc.

I'd never really thought of this before, but after he got start safety was just about all he had to say and compare between the rifles. Accuracy and cost etc. faded into the background a bit.

I suppose I never really thought about it because you assume all the major rifle brands are reliable and safe, but once we got to the Sauer he thought it was the safest and therefore the one to buy.

Anyone pick their rifle based on safety features rather than accuracy/reputation?

Never had any concerns one rifle was more or less safe than the other.

no as I only use my hand loads and the only thing that matters to me is consistent accuracy .

this is why I will never buy another factory rile again after having a 260r built even though it

it was on a factory action .

No not something I consider - I think a lot of that stuff is over engineered and over hyped a lot of the time.

Maybe he thought he'd hooked you with the safety aspect and then went about trying to sell you the rifle with the best mark-up in his shop based on the "safety" of it?

yes i take these things into consideration but not for their safety attributes.
those listed above are good traits to have to aid in both accuracy, and brass life.

Never.
Only use I ever found for a safety is on a handgun when it's holstered with a round chambered.
