Bsa Martini cadet 310 advice

Post by Bent Arrow » 26 Feb 2017, 8:11 pm

Hi. I am trying to establish what a fair price for a bsa Martini cadet in 310 might be. The serial numbers on the stock and receiver match, but the barrel and action have quite a bit of surface rust. Prices on the web at dealers vary widely and whilst condition is crucial, is there much influence based on serial numbers (age, version etc) that comes in to play? Thanks in advance

There were two models of Australian contract BSA 310s. Model 4 with the ladder rearsight, of which 9000 were delivered in 1909, and the Model 4b with the windage rearsight. 56,000 of these were delivered during 1911-12. Both have about the same value depending on condition.

That's actually the second pattern, model 4b.
You could clean the loose rust off with steel wool. The rifle's value could be about $400, depending on bore condition.

Thanks, much appreciated. Seems to be some confusion out there on what pattern is what....... I'm guessing that $400 estimate is for one in good condition.? I'm looking to buy this one as is, so I'm trying to work out what a glass half full price might be, rather than what it might get cleaned up. I get that these are getting harder and harder to find, but don't want it bad enough to pay full blown retail

A few photos, should give a better indication of condition

G'day Bent Arrow,
A Cadet in that condition can be found for around $150, but the bore would need to be OK. Last Cadet I bought was 2 weeks ago, a Greener in good nick with a very good bore for $300. What is driving Cadet prices for the last couple of years is exporters buying them up at silly prices due to the growing popularity for them in the UK and US, where they can fetch very good money. Due to these high auction prices some dealers think they can flog them here for several hundred bucks, but if you look around you can still get them for 2-300 tops, Cheers.

I certainly wouldn't pay any more than $150 for the one you have pictured and it would have to have a shootable bore.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. There is a small amount of old ammo with the rifle. Any chance it would be useable, and how would I be able to tell?
