That would probably depend on where you're driving from.
I would actually prefer to give the entrance fee to my local dealer, and go shooting for the weekend.

What about the two upcoming in Vic/Melb?
April 1 & 2 Melbourne Arms & Militaria Fair in Altona
and
ShotExpo in May

Are they worth the effort?
Thanks

Not for me. When I was a youngster I tended to buy what I saw.
A milsurp is probably the only thing I'm likely to buy because I saw it somewhere.
Nowadays I decide what I want first, then order it.
I rarely browse gunshops, just order what I want and go pick it up.
Since moving to Victoria in late 2014, I've bought 14 rifles and a shotgun, but I doubt I've been into a gunshop much more than two-dozen times.

I've managed to avoid Melbourne so far (I visited in '92, again in '02, and flew across from Perth for Warhorse at the Arts Theatre in '12).

go on Saturday, by Sunday arvo most of the stall holders are over it and most of the bargains(such as they are) are gone, i go every year, buy a bit of crap or a knife. its not a bad way to spend a few hours and its the male equivalent of going window shopping

It can be OK for picking up odds and ends but you do have to sift thru a lot of junk

Lots of overpriced bits and pieces, some complete junk, but there is good stuff in between. I got there on Sunday last time and there wasn't much left, I'll be getting there early Saturday this time and hopefully find a nice clean milsurp I can make a poor financial decision on :)

Even if i don't buy anything there is alway some cool old gun or thing to spark my interest.

I personally think the best part about the old s**ty junk guns is being able to bring them back to life and learn valuable gunsmithing/woodwork skills in doing so.
