Help with best caliber to buy

If you want to Hunt anything in Aus go the .308 especially if you want to hunt Sambar as the minimum legal caliber is .270

My swc9nd gun after the .22 was a .243. For a Victorian, I think it was a silly choice. On the plus side, it made me buy my 30-06 earlier than anticipated.

I am originally a Qld'er and the .243 caliber is what I shot with my mates and I loved it as we hunted medium game mostly.... goats and pigs. Expensive for ammo though.

However here i Vic, I should have gone the 30-06 first (or .308 to save debating with thise so inclined) and then thought about a medium game or pest control calibre like the .243.... goats, pigs, dogs, foxes etc

I plan to trip into NSW and the .243 will be my gun of choice there.

Yes, plus you use a lot more powder for little gain.

Have been wondering the same question myself and after a lot of research and trying a few different calibres I have brought a 6.5 Creedmoor. Main reason more accurate than a 308 on the range which is were most of it's shooting is going to be.

50 cal for bugs bunny, and ANYTHING you can spot under 15km. hehehehe

.243 with the rite load (58-100grn) is a great all rounder for most game in Australia, up to 200m or so. longer if you take the time to place your shot correctly. a bit on the expensive side per shot with factory ammo though. (do some o/t on a Saturday to cover the cost)

well, wookies aren't known for their spelling , just ripping the arms of things and clobbering stormtroopers

as far as most folks who don't reload , 223,308 cause it's cheap . if you reload , sky's the limit so long as there's good projectile choice for the job at hand . my safe contains all the good old school stuff , 222 , 243 , 6.5x55 , 8x57 . i'll build up a 35 whelen one day .....shoulda bought a bigger safe
