Tikka T3x Tac A1 muzzle brake difficulties

Post by dalkiel » 05 Jun 2017, 7:47 am

Hello all.

I picked up a 6.5 over the weekend. Having difficulties aligning the supplied muzzle break but failed miserably.

Any suggestions?

Read on internet that perhaps a washer would help?

Assuming you mean indexing it then yes, you shim it.

Coke can is 0.004" thick and makes excellent shims.

No sorry. I meant aligning the ports to the side. They are now currently pointing downwards.

Yes, that's indexing it.
If the threads are 5/8"-24TPI then the pitch is about 42-thou.
Turning it 90-degrees will require shimming it about 10-12-thou so try three shims cut from a can.
Alternatively you can put it in a lathe and machine some off the brake for the same result.

I would have thought it would be supplied fitted? Maybe take it back to gun shop.

The ones I've bought came with a washer but you can buy the washers on Ebay very cheap.
I would think most gunshops should have some.

It shouldn't need a washer/ shims as its a thread and pinch collar brake. It may not index butted up against the barrel shoulder, tighten it all the way up to the shoulder then back it up that poofteenth so the ports are horizontal and tighten the collar. Its no different to the larger original Sako/blaser brake as they were the same.
