1957 Brno Mod 2 front site hood

Post by JWS_777 » 01 Aug 2017, 11:41 am

Hi There,

After a long search I just purchased a 1957 Brno Mod 2. It's my first rifle and I wanted this model as I've got some fond memories of shooting bunnies with a Brno when I was younger. It is completely original with the only thing missing being the front site hood. There seems to be a few online but can anyone help out in letting me know what the hood looked like on these early Mod 2 Brno's? From my research the Mod 1 had a solid hood whilst the Mod 2 had an open slit in it? Or did the open slit in the Mod2s arrive later (CZ)?

Looking to buy the right one so any help would be appreciated. If anyone has one for sale I'd be happy to purchase!

Cheers Jimmy

Great detailed pics, much appreciated. Not sure where the example I saw (open slit on top of the hood) comes from. Anyway I'll be on the look out for a solid hood like yours.

Thanks

I have a box of sights parts and there are dozens of sight hoods. I will dig it out and have a look?

Thanks for the messages guys.
Deano you're a champion and would appreciate it if you could mate.
Apollo I dare say I'm looking at what I need to find? Original run of Mod 2 seems to be from 54 - 66 and I don't imagine they altered that hood. Looking at the end of my barrel it/ front site it looks exactly the same.

In comparison, this is a Brno Model 2E 1985 version.

Even though the front sight itself is different, I don't know if they are interchangeable. Can't check as the Model 2E was sold to a friend some time ago.

There were a lot of differences even in Model 2's like the 1965 I have has a 16mm Dovetail Action but a few years later they were 3/8" Dovetail.

That seems to be the example I've seen online for sale (open slit on top of hood). Thanks for posting.

the open slit is from cz's, not your older mod 2, I have a few in that year era and they either have the same as old bloke or Apollos, Apollos sight hood seems to be the most uncommon one I have seen

Thanks Bushy. I did see those and rang up Rebel Gunworks but they were suited to a Mod 1. He also had a look out back for me but no joy.

Same hood as my 1965. People won't believe some have an original rifle.

Thanks for backing me up.

Great rifle, super accurate. Pity the new one's aren't quite so nice.

Both those rifles (the '57 & the '65) are in great nick for the age!

I have a 71 vintage mod 2, identical except for wood colour to my fathers 57 vintage unit. Many many years ago I found a replacement front sight hood for mine, but it was lost only yr or so later when it got knocked off, dragging my sorry ass thru thick scrub - have searched for years to no avail to find correct replacement
