Quality left handed rifles

Post by JimmyS » 19 Aug 2017, 2:01 pm

G'day gents, hope your weekend has been ace so far.

As a left handed bloke, I can have bit of trouble finding a decent rifle.

I was recently at my local Gun shop, honestly couldn't find any standard calibre rifles( .223, .308 ) new, in left handed WITH Iron Sights.

I had to go for a lever action, which I love, but I also want a decent Bolt Action.
I couldn't even find a CZ 527 variant in left handed with Iron Sights.

I think they make the Hawkeye in left handed, not too sure about the Voere, but if they made that 2155 in left, I'd jump on it, no questions asked.

https://www.gunemporium.com.au/Ruger-Ha ... rican.html

https://www.gunemporium.com.au/Voere-2155-Rifle.html

Basically, I'm looking for a New, Left Handed rifle w/ iron sights, preferably something that'll last me a long time. Not too fussed about prices, but nothing crazy.
Cheers for any input :D

i feel your pain and it's a frustrating process. First of all, you have to find a LGS that will take your request seriously - not "why don't ya shoot right handed, I do".

i've settled on a Tikka and Savage .22lr and couldn't be happier but it can be a expensive and a time consuming experience, but why with iron sights.

I prefer to use weapons in their crude, original form i.e. with as little aid to me (the shooter) as possible.

f***ed if I knew why, just preference I guess.

PS. Most prefer the term firearms or rifles rather than weapons. Weapons has an aggressive ring to it. Just saying

The term "Weapons" is a soldier thing or otherwise used by people who despise us and seek to denigrate us by describing / designating our firearms as such.

Even though old I could probably beat the s#it out of someone with a chair, the chair would then justifiably be described as a weapon

So is the tongue in the battle for the minds [such as they are] of the Proletariat.

I was in the service for a period, so I have always referred to them as "Weapons"

I didn't mean anything by it, nor do I feel like it is a derogatory term for a Rifle, or any other firearm for that matter.
Far as I'm concerned, only anti gunners and the like, use it in a derogatory way, and I do not want to conform to emotional based decisions on what a word means.

Regardless of my opinions, I will do my best to maintain correct use of terminology.

Cheers.

Ahhh us lefties, Goddamn pain in the arse.
I'm online, browsing all these goddamn sexy pieces of Iron & Wood, that I can't shoot maybe I should think about learning how to shoot right handed? If I'm gonna get into SMLE's & KAR98's I should probably give it a shot.

Thanks for all the advice gents, really appreciate it.
Enjoy your Sunday.

I shoot lefthanded because I am blind in my right eye, at present I'm shooting a right handed ruger gunsite scout in 223 using iron sights.. it is a great little rifle and small enough to cycle bolt with right hand comfortably while still holding to the shoulder.. they do come in left handed also in 223 and 308..

thanks for the info guys, new to this site, but being a lefty i have always operated right handed bolt actions, so annoying although you do get better at it lol, I have a question to the OP, i was going to go lever action, but i have a couple of old windchester 22 and i get blow out of the ejector slide on the side, doesn't tickle, do you get that with you lever action?

He said quality rifle and that he wasn't too worried about price. Saying Tikka & Sako do the same thing is like saying Zastava & Tikka do the same thing. Zastava is cheaper than Tikka and also do left handed rifles so maybe you think he should get on of those instead?

Tell me what the massive quality difference is between the Tikkler and the Sako? having owned both I can tell you SFA but you enlighten us with your wisdom of owning and using both by all means. :drinks:

I have used both and the simple quality difference is obvious. You may not personally think it is worth $1000 but that is an individual's choice. The OP distinctly stated 'quality rifle, not to worried about price'.

FYI, you can pick up a Sako Lefty for around $1800 at the moment if you are flexible with chambering.

So what's the obvious difference you speak of? :unknown: is it in the barrels, action, wood - what exactly?
