You've got what appears to be a war time manufacture no4 mk1 (1942) that was brought up to mk2 spec in 1953 during the FTR program (Factory Thorough Repair) all this means is that the trigger that was previously hung from the trigger guard, is now hung from the receiver. This was deemed important in humid climates where the stock would warp from humidity and affect the trigger pull and accuracy etc. That's just about all I can gather from the pictures you've provided, but I'm sure more seasoned experts will arrive shortly to pick up on anything I've missed.

G'day Daddybang,
Gun-nut has it covered, 1942 ROF made No4 converted to Mk2 trigger, with other upgrades as needed. The only thing I would add is that the conversion was done at Fazakerly, as designated by the bracketed (F) before the FTR. Nice looking rifle, Cheers.

Is there any significance to the z in front of the serial number? :drinks: :drinks:

G'day Daddybang,
No, not really. The 1st 10000 production had no prefix, then A to Z were added, then AA to ZZ. The 1st digit has meaning though, serials beginning with digit 1 are Maltby production, digit 2 are Fazakerly, digit 3 and a few digit 4 rifles are BSA Shirley. Cheers.
