Sako 25-06

Post by Member-Deleted » 15 Nov 2017, 1:30 pm

I'm trying to decide should I sell my 25-06 to fund my 30-06 rebuild
I have found that I can duplicate the 25-06 in lower weight projectiles with the 30-06
With the 25-06 i'm restricted to 75-120grain but the 30-06 can go a lot heavier and at the same time I can go down to 110 grain
and mimic the 25-06 velocities
I'm still undecided but still pondering as the 25-06 is still pretty new At the moment i'm running 100 grain MatchKing @ 3232 fps
at 1/2'' or less @ 100 yrds
It's a Sako Roughtech Range 12 months old 26'' fluted barrel and threaded mat black had 200 rounds put through it as I have kept count
I just want to pick your brains to see if I should keep or sell and find out what you think it would be worth now
If I do sell it won't come with a scope as I will keep it for my rebuild
I paid $2275 just for the rifle on its own
So waitin for your thoughts

Yeah mate I seem to think i'm better off with one rifle cause how many do you carry with you at one time
Usually I've got the 22-250 and needed the bigger rifle and other times I've got the 25-06 and needed a bigger rifle
so I think the 30-06 will cover all bases with the 22-250
Its going to kill me to part with the 25-06 but some times you have to bite the bullet and run with what is best
If I do sell i'll let the dies go with it as well as a new bag of norma shells and what projectiles I have there would be $300 or more loading equipment
But I won't sell unless I get the right price its too good to give away And by the way its been glass bedded
But we'll see what people have to say and i'll have good think on it hard to let a baby go isn't it

Very nice looking rifle. If you love it why not keep it? I take it you've considered rebarelling it to 30-06?

G'day Tom Foolery yes I am rebarreling a mauser back to 30-06 at the moment the barrel on it is 22-250 Ackley originally
it was 30-06 I bought the 25-06 at the beginning of the year thinking it would be big enough for what I needed it for but it's not you have
to make sure you have a perfect shot every time or you won't stop the bulls
The 30-06 can do everything the 25-06 can do and I can't afford to have too many rifles not being used I could go 300 cal but its
too big and too expensive to run also I've already started the stock and other things ready for rebarreling the mauser
It's a money thing now after my knee replacements and my sons accident so hard decisions have to be made if I want to continue
with the rebarreling project mind you if I could keep both I would believe me

Yep, makes sense when you put it like that.

Part of me is wishing I didn't already own a 270 so I could justify taking it off your hands. I do hope you get a good price for it.

I have had an offer from a gun shop quiet good to but it would have to be a trade in on another rifle
why would I want another rifle if that is not my aim my aim is to rebuild the one I've got half done
I'm thinking they may already have a buyer and can't get a new one straight away or a new one is too expensive

I'd say sell it and put the money towards more ammo or components for your 3006 or anything else that takes priority. As you said in an earlier post, you've got quite a lot going on at the moment and that money could be better spent elsewhere. You even stated that you have loads for your 3006 that make your 25-06 redundant anyway. Just my opinion take it for whats it worth.

Thanks Gun-nut you're exactly right mate I've been thinking hard and long yet still wasn't sure i'd done the right thing when I
posted last night to sell and when I got no comments I thought I may have done the wrong thing or it was too expensive
Marksman was on the ball he said I had answered my own question
