Vortex HS-T 4-16x44

I purchased this scope before getting a rifle, bit backwards but my mate has one and they seem pretty damn good and I like them, planning on mounting it on a Howa 1500 Varmint SS 223, anyone had experience with either rifle or scope and can back up this decision would be good.

Cheers

Yeah it’s not a bad scope - my mate uses one for rimfire silhouette - I’ve shot with it. It’s pretty heavy, and the eye relief is not as forgiving as some. And the clarity is better in some other scopes like my leupold and even my cheaper Japanese made rimfire scope tbh. Some of those vortexes are made in the Phillipines I think. Not sure which ones exactly.

What’s your intended purpose with it? Punching paper? Hunting?

I'm using a Bushnell 4-16x44 on a HOWA1500 Varmint 20" .223
Vortex are great scopes for the money and I have a Viper HST 6-24x50 on my .308.
The HST tracks back to zero perfectly every time.
The 4-16x44 is a fine(IMO) power for .223 and I've shot it out to 400 at range with clear picture.

As for the HOWA1500 .223 and if they can shoot, they're way better than me and with a load it likes will easily shoot sub 0.5MOA
Mine is still in the factory Hogue stock (which the .308 and 6.5 hated)
See second target top row and first in (small) second row. That second row 25.4gn "Super Roo" is 8 shots in the dot at 100m
Happy with that for a $449 rifle hey.

Hope that helps

Also this might have been asked plenty of times before but is the stainless barrel the go, just thinking in terms of cleaning might be a bit easier? Its not a massive price difference so thats why I was leaning towards it.

Well it'll be perfect for stationary supported shooting so no worries mate. Meh IMO if you look after your rifles properly (routine maintenance) and keep em out of the weather, stainless is somewhat of a gimmick. Sure easier to clean; buy it if you can afford I suppose. But FWIW I'd prefer a plain steel barrel and have a little more cash for optics to get me a nice Leuie :D
