Can anybody give me a year of manufacture for a mod 70 featherweight classic with a serial number of G60XXX. Have tried winchester sights and oldguns etc and it seems like I'm chasing a unicorn!!!!! Any info appreciated!!

Thanks dude. I think this is a 1990s build but none of the records show serial numbers with a g prefix and only five numbers. I read there was a fire in the record office and a lot of recordd were destroyed but was hoping someone on here might have a similar number and know the date.

Thanks OB I can't work out the way the numbers run when I put the number into the winchester site it wouldn't let me enter the g prefix and it came back as a 1940s build (I wish!!!! ) If the numbers ran in sequence using your date would make mine 60s or 70s build but I'm sure that it's not that old. As I said it looks like a unicorn!!

Perhaps each manufacturing facility was issued it's own batch of numbers

One reference (https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthrea ... h_G_prefix) I saw was that they restarted the low numbering with the G prefix for the custom shop models in 1989 and the classic line in 1993. They apparently are based off the pre-64 action rather than the later ones win the 6+ digit G serial number ones
