Have a few gaps

Something in 6mm probably 6mm Creedmoor

Something in 30cal probably 30.06

Maybe a 450 bushmaster as a scrub gun.

What model are you going with? The 20 inch barrel with Iron siights looks like it would make for a great slug gun.

Yeah going for the 20" the 24" is just a touch long for the missus to use comfortably!!
Its limited to 21/2" shells but that's plenty for the intended purpose ( havin fun!!)
Might fit it with a red dot just cause!!
 :drinks:

I have a Marlin lever .410, I mainly use it for shooting rats when cleaning out sheds, pens ect. My partner finds it a little on the heavy side, it also has enough power to put unruly sheep down out to about 50m when using slugs.

What's the barrel length of the marlin?
The main use for the Henry will be fun plinking sessions and of course any joe blakes that pose a threat. Also a camp gun if any dogs get to close to us(last time out we had one getting cheeky but we were on crown land so couldn't shoot!) It's probably gonna be a bit of a wait from ordering to delivery but that'll give me something to look forward to!! :drinks:

I have the reamer but have had the biggest issue with dies and go guage. Plus, caah has been funnelled into projects around the property. It's on the backburner but I'm still keen to do it.

JS, if you're going a 16" 223rem, keep in mind that leaves you no room to recrown or set back the barrel if anything nasty happens.

Did not occur to me. I am still thinking about it, I'm not planning on messing the crown up... But definitely something to consider, it didn't even occur to me. Thanks!

I always look at the chamber end of any rifle barrel with a view to possible re-chambering. Has it got enough metal there to be re-chambered?
When getting barrels built I always get them profiled so that they can be re-chambered at least a couple of times. You'll wear the throat out before the bore so an apparent "shot out" barrel will have a new lease of life with a "cut and shut". I've had a few of my rifles that have given me extended barrel life by doing this, both target and hunting rifles . I'll add that they are always well and truly long enough as well.
If you buy a barrel that is already at minimum legal length, this is an option you won't have.

On the subject, how long do you reckon a 308w barrel would last operating at 2500fps, 41000psi?

At a guess, if cared for properly, 4 to 5000 rounds. I have a 7-08 that is now in need of a re-chamber at @ 4500 rounds.

And at 60000psi would you say roughly 2 to 3000 rounds?

Dunno. :unknown: I don't run any of my loads that high. I used to in a 6.5, but throat life was about 2000 rounds before needing a re-chamber.
Lesson learned.

Sweet thanks mate, I think your estimates sound about right :drinks: will be sticking to 40k psi and only when the need for jacketed arises.

I would think anybody with a lathe can make you the dies and go gauge?
I make bullet sizing dies out of 7/8" bolts.

Yep thats about right. I think changing mindset to a barrel is a consumable like brass has to be brought into the equation. Especially when shooting a lot and for accuracy. Most target shooters think this way and will often swap out a barrel based just on the number of rounds rather than have it go off mid season. Certainly if you are ever on a State or National team the 3000 round is the max that you will have on the barrel at the end of all the practices lead up comps and then the final and you must have a backup gun as well.

16" barrels  I think my 24" lever rifles are stunted! Hard to visualize a 16" one when your used to 30" and more! My .50-70 rolling block has a 36" barrel.

Ok, f*** it, I've been simmering on it for a bit... Remington 7615 with pistol grip, adjustable stock and low power optic. I decided I want one.

Why? Because it looks fun.

For a hunting rifle, I really like the idea of the CZ-527 Carbine (in 223). The triggers on those things are amazeballs, and I do love the way a carbine points (and obviously carries).
